While I kiss the tip of each of my children's digits regularly, this monster was busy smashing her babies finger tips until they were purple.
Every touch must have brought pain. Every grip.
I have a certain love for baby and toddler fingers/toes. I even have high res. canvas prints of my kids hands in my home.

Cannabis addict Kathryn Smith launched an appeal against her sentence after claiming a medical blunder proves the jury was 'misled'
A mother who stamped her toddler daughter to death has had the minimum term she must spend in prison reduced by five years.

Cannabis addict Kathryn Smith was jailed for life after she was found guilty of killing 21-month-old Ayeeshia in a fit of temper after months of beatings.

The 24-year-old, who was dubbed "devious, manipulative and selfish" by a judge, was convicted of murder last year.

But Smith has now had her minimum term reduced after taking her case to the Court of Appeal, claiming a medical blunder proves the jury was 'misled'.

Her barrister, John Butterfield QC, told the court a doctor's opinion which was now available cast doubt upon some of the evidence given by medical experts during her trial.

He told the court there was a "misunderstood entry" in Ayeeshia's medical records, which meant her weight had been wrongly recorded in the months before her death.

Mr Butterfield said this was "profoundly troubling" as it gave jurors the misleading impression that Ayeeshia's weight had "plunged" dramatically while she was being cared for by Smith.

He argued that, in the context of a trial where Smith and Ayeeshia's stepdad, Matthew Rigby, were each blaming the other for her death, this evidence could have caused serious prejudice to Smith.
Rigby, 23, was jailed for three-and-a-half years after being found guilty of causing or allowing Ayeeshia's death but was cleared of murder and child cruelty.

During Smith's sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court, Mrs Justice Andrews said: "You are a devious, manipulative, selfish, young woman who would stop at nothing to get your own way."

She added: "Ayeeshia was a particularly vulnerable victim, thin and slight of frame, deserving of protection and under the protection of social services for the whole of her short life.

"She was killed in her own home by her own mother - that is the grossest breach of trust."

Ayeeshia collapsed at the flat in Britannia Drive, Burton-upon-Trent, after suffering a fatal heart laceration - a type of injury usually only found in crash victims.

Ricky Booth, 23, told Good Morning Britain he remembered the daughter as "the little angel she was" as he said more could have been done.

The 21-month-old's dad - who had catalogued photographs of injuries his daughter suffered, told the show: "They had the photographic evidence.

"The proof was there that there was marks, but they just wouldn't look into it."

He said his daughter had been "a perfect little girl".

Ayeeshia's grandmother Tracey Bodell added: "If the right steps had been taken at the right time, she wouldn't be out of our lives now.

A serious case review, published yesterday, found that social workers had "missed red flags" but that the toddler's death "couldn't have been predicted".

Kathryn Smith, 24, was jailed for life after murdering Ayeeshia at the home she shared with the youngster's stepdad Matthew Rigby in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, in May 2014.

Rigby, 22, was jailed for three years and six months for causing or allowing the death of a child.

The report by Derbyshire's Safeguarding Children Board revealed that the 21-month-old was killed a day after a multi-agency risk assessment meeting was called due to "a growing sense of unease" about her safety.

The serious case review, which identified those involved by initials, said all agencies concerned with the family had been "inclined to take what (Smith) said at face value".

It concluded that the needs of Smith as a potential victim of domestic abuse had overshadowed the needs of little Ayeeshia.

Smith had an appeal against her conviction thrown out by the Court of Appeal in July, but judges reduced her minimum term from 24 to 19 years.

April 23 - Smith takes her daughter to the child's health clinic for her two-year weight check, where the toddler measures 20lbs (9.14kg), however the weight loss since the February hospital admission is over-looked because the health visitor does not have access to those records.
