A 13-year-old girl in Kansas died after being dragged for several miles by her family's SUV that had been stolen outside of a restaurant, police said.

The girl was sitting in the back seat of the running vehicle while her family went inside to get food on Saturday when Kevin Palmer, 34, got into the driver's seat and took off, Wichita police said in a news release.

The teen tried to get out of the vehicle while it was moving but was caught in the seat belt and dragged, police said. Someone saw the SUV, called 911 and followed the vehicle.

Palmer stopped the SUV and ran away, then was captured by arriving officers. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Palmer is charged with felony murder.

Congratulations Mr. Clueless. You're getting a murder rap for trying to steal of all things, a Ford Escape.
Hope you're fucking proud of yourself.

Fuck. That thing was just worthless, plainly worthless trash. It should have been destroyed before it killed someone.

Plainly, families riding in cars cannot allow anyone to carjack them. They all need to pack, that way at least one of them will get the criminal dead. But they will need to be careful not to shoot one another by accident. Bullets don't discriminate based upon who you intended to hit with them.

Briana was waiting in the back seat of the running SUV parked outside the restaurant while her family went inside to pick up food at about midday.

hmmmmmmmm

I think these people had no idea what POS had been released into their neighborhood. Plainly they left the keys in the ignition and the engine running, so has to keep things warm for the girl inside. And they did not feel it necessary to have her hit the door locks while inside 'just in case'. eh.

The man arrested in the death of 13-year-old Brianna Ibarra Saturday appeared before a judge this afternoon.

Prosecutors have charged Kevin Palmer, 34, with murder in the first degree in the commission of a felony. He is also charged with theft of property or services valued between $1,500 and $25,000.

“I’m so sorry that this happened, I’m so sorry,” Palmer told the judge.

Palmer kept putting his head on the desk during the proceeding.

The judge told Palmer to discuss it with his attorney.

Palmer’s bond is set at half-a-million dollars. His next court date is Feb. 18.

A 37-year-old man in Kansas will spend several decades behind bars for killing a 13-year-old girl dragging her for “several miles” behind an SUV he had stolen from a restaurant parking lot over two years ago.
Sedgwick County District Judge Kevin Mark Smith on Wednesday ordered Kevin M. Palmer to serve a sentence of 493 months — just over 41 years — for his role in the horrific and tragic death of young Brianna Ibarra, authorities confirmed to Law&Crime.

Palmer previously pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree reckless murder for killing Brianna.
Kevin M. Palmer - “There’s no words that I can say that will express how sorry I am that this happened and how much I regret what happened,” he reportedly said during the hearing. “Every single day, every single night, I can’t sleep, and I’m just in torment because of what happened and what I caused, and I didn’t know, I didn’t know that she was in the car, and I didn’t know that she was stuck in the seat belt, but at the same time, it was my stupidity that is the reason why this happened.”
