A teenage mother has been charged with felony child endangerment after her 18-month-son, who was trailing far behind her in a parking lot, was run over by a car.

The boy, Alan Villeda, died on August 14 outside a Houston apartment complex, according to multiple reports. The horrific incident was captured on surveillance video.
Gissel Vazquez, 18, is out on bail. Vazquez, must now have supervised visits with her other child, a 2-month-old, a judge ruled.

According to KPRC, the footage allegedly shows Vazquez walking across a mostly empty parking lot at a brisk pace. Moments later, a child — her 3-year-old nephew — is seen trailing behind her.

Meanwhile, the video shows a neighbor exiting the apartment building, and entering a Honda Civic. Just then, ABC13 reports, Alan walks into the frame, slowing as he sees the Civic start to move.

The car backs up a bit before pulling forward, running over the toddler.

Two minutes later, the nephew, according to reports, can be seen pointing to Alan, who is unresponsive on the pavement. Vazquez runs to the child and picks him up, then screams.

Prosecutors filed charges against Vazquez on the basis that she allegedly acted recklessly by not paying attention to her nephew and son as they walked through the lot.

Prosecutors haven’t decided if the driver of the car that hit the child will be charged — but ABC13 reports Vazquez’s family members want the driver to face charges.
Vazquez’s family is now calling for the driver of the white car to be charged as well.

Prosecutors say the investigation has only just begun and that while the driver isn’t being charged right now, they are not ruling out future charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.

The driver told investigators that she did not realize that she hit the boy, and that’s why she left the scene. When she was told what had happened, she returned to the scene, where she passed a drug and alcohol test.

Stupid retarded mother got her kid killed.

You can see where the driver saw the first kid but seems to have missed the second that was 1000 miles back. What a retard for a mother.

The car has the usual texas blacked-out-windows that they do down there because of the tremendous heat and sun. IMO not fair if they charge the driver, but yeah you can bet your ass that the irresponsible mother is throwing blame away from herself, I mean look at that toddler back there.

After reading the story, I was ready to blame only the negligent mom who walked away from two toddlers in a parking lot. However, after watching the video, the white car should have been able to see the kid, who was right in front of her car and standing still. Charge them both.

Like @Brillig I thought it was the driver couldn't see the little guy, but as far as he was from the car, she should have seen him easily, if she had been paying attention to what was going on around her.

this sorta scenario is nightmare fuel for me, the Grand Monkey doesn't want me to hold her hand cause she's 5 and bullet proof, but I did try to explain to her that's she's too short and the driver might not be able to see her, while as short as I am, they would be able to see me. but it's still a struggle to hold onto her.

Both are at fault here. The driver had plenty of time to notice that kid, I am also thinking she was probably looking in the rear view mirror at the first Child and didn't see the second one. But as a driver you need to pay attention to ANY direction you are going.

Sad, all around. The female who was with the children could have prevented this by holding the children’s hand or making them stay right by her side. A parking lot is dangerous, she should never let the child out of her sight! With my Grands, they knew when we exited the car that they were to stay right by me , it was a rule! No one can get hurt, that’s a rule too!
