Matthew Dion, 40, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the deaths of his parents. The sentence was part of a deal in which Dion pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson.

Pam Focosi, Dion's ex-fiancee and the mother of their 4-year-old son, struggled through tears at times to read a statement in court. She said she was speaking for the victims, living and dead.

"I cannot imagine how terrified, how much pain your parents must have felt," Focosi said. "To know that you're going to die at the hands of someone you loved unconditionally."

After more than a year on the run, Matthew Dion was captured in Florida and brought back to New Hampshire.

Prosecutors revealed in court Wednesday that Matthew Dion sent them a letter while he was on the run. In that letter, he confessed to the murders and threatened suicide, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also said that Matthew Dion had been stealing stamps from his father and taking them to Boston to sell. He was also living a life of lies that was about to unravel before the killings.

"He wasn't working," Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeff Strelzin said. "He told everyone that he was working. He, in fact, didn't have a job. He was experiencing some pain in medical issues. He had some relationship issues, and it looks like all that came to a head."
