A California toddler died after her mom left her locked in a car for five hours — with the heat on and the windows rolled up — as she drank with a friend, according to a new report.

June Love Augusto, 2, was found unconscious inside her mom’s car, parked in the Los Angeles neighborhood of West Carson in the early hours of Sept. 22, according to LA County medical examiner reports obtained by KTLA.

Around 11:30 p.m. the night before, the toddler’s mother left the toddler alone in the car, and then got into another car nearby to drink with a friend, she told authorities, according to the coroner’s report.

Before she left the car, she added, she turned on the heater and threw a blanket over her daughter’s lap so she wouldn’t get cold.

The woman fell asleep and didn’t check on her daughter again until around 5 a.m., the report said. She found June unresponsive in her car seat.

“Vomit was present on her shirt and the car seat. Skin was coming off [June’s] back,” said the report, obtained by the station. “[The mother] places her on the grass and sprayed her with the water hose in an attempt to cool her down.”

...“[The mother] places her on the grass and sprayed her with the water hose in an attempt to cool her down.” .... The woman dialed 911 and paramedics brought the girl to a local hospital, where her body temperature was 107.5 degrees upon arrival.
Holy shit, the momster took the toddler out of the car, sprayed her with water, finally called 911, an ambulance takes an average of 10 minutes to arrived, add 5 minutes for the child to checked and loaded in the meat wagon, another 10 ten minutes to get to the emergency room.

So, let's say it took a minimum of 30 minutes from the time the child was removed from the car and arrrived at the emergency room where they took her temperature and it was a fucking 107.5°!

Mom lost Custody of another child in Jun 2013
A man and woman are facing numerous drug charges after police raided their Danielson home this morning.

Lawrence James, 34, and Lacey Mazzarella, 27, are charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, operating a drug factory and risk of injury to a minor.

State police said they found cocaine packaged for sale, a scale and about $500 in cash.

The state Department of Children and Families took custody of a 3-year-old child in the apartment. Police said the child was found lying on a bed where powdered cocaine later was found.

Homicide detectives investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl who died after being left in a car with the heater on while her mother allegedly drank with a friend in West Carson last week arrested the mother Wednesday night, sheriff's officials said.

Lacey Mazzarella, 34, of Rancho Palos Verdes was taken into custody about 8:00 p.m. and booked on suspicion of murder, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Information Bureau.

Mazzarella has a history of drug abuse and lost custody of an older child six years ago due to neglect, the coroner's report noted.

According to county booking records, bail for Mazzarella was set at $1 million. She was scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday for an arraignment hearing.

The father of the little girl who died when her mother admitted to leaving their two-year-old alone in the car with the heat on is speaking out.

Garry Agosto says he was fighting for full custody of his two-year-old girl.

The day after laying little June Love to rest, Agosto is making it his mission to fight for kids who he says are neglected, in his daughter’s honor.

“It’s just not fair as a parent who cares and gives their whole life for their kid,” says Garry Agosto. “Every day is tough. It doesn’t get any easier. It hasn’t gotten any easier at all. It’s just this pain in my stomach that won’t go away.”

Knowing his baby suffered, Agosto says, is the hardest part.

“That’s what really kills. She was so little.”

June was her dad’s world and at two years old, he says, she had so much personality. “She was the funniest little girl. She loved music. As soon as she would hear a song, she would start dancing.”

Memories like that Agosto holds onto, as he lays his baby to rest.

“It was tough. She was just so little.”

A Rancho Palos Verdes mother whose 2-year-old daughter died last year after being left alone in the car for hours with the heater running pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter on Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Lacey Ana Mazzarella, 35, was accused of leaving June Love Agosto in a carseat inside of her car on Sept. 22, 2019, in a parking lot in an unincorporated area near Torrance and Carson. Mazzarella, who was inside a friend’s vehicle nearby drinking alcohol, turned the heater on for the child because she told investigators it was cold out, according to a Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office report.

Mazzarella apparently fell asleep and the child was left in the car for about five hours, when the mother went to the car and found the child unresponsive with the heater still running, the report said. Mazzarella then laid Agosto on a nearby lawn and sprayed water on her with a hose in an attempt to cool her; authorities were called shortly after, according to the report.

When Agosto arrived at the hospital, her temperature was 107.5 degrees, the report said. She died of heatstroke.

Mazzarella was expected to be sentenced to 14 years and eight months in prison in January, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Lacey Ana Mazzarella, 35, was sentenced Wednesday to 14 years and eight months in state prison for the death of her 2-year-old daughter, who was left alone in a car for hours with the heater on in 2019, officials said.

Just before midnight on Sept. 22, 2019, Mazzarella left her 2-year-old daughter, June Love Agosto, in a car, covering her with a blanket and turning the heater on. Meanwhile, the mom drank alcohol in another nearby vehicle with a friend until she “passed out,” the DA’s office said.

Mazzarella told investigators at the time that she left her daughter in a parked car around 11:30 p.m. and left the engine running with the heater on so she wouldn’t get cold.

When Mazzarella eventually woke up around 5 a.m., she found her daughter unresponsive, with vomit on her shirt and on the car seat, according to the coroner’s report. She took the 2-year-old out of the car, put her on the grass and sprayed her with a water hose in an attempt to cool her down, authorities said.

A call to 911 was placed but by the time the toddler arrived at the hospital, her temperature had reached 107.5 degrees, according to a coroner’s report. She also appeared to have burns on her face, chest and arms, and her eyes were cloudy, officials said.
Mazzarella has a history of drug abuse, and lost custody of another child — then 3 years old — eight years ago due to neglect, officials said.
