This one is still developing. Few other details have been released to the press yet.

Martin Martinez, 30, was located in San Jose, about 80 miles west of the town where police made the gruesome discovery of the bodies of three children and two adults Saturday afternoon.

Police announced his capture around 6 a.m. Sunday.

No other details in the investigation have been released.

Police were summoned to the 2600 block of Nob Hill Court to conduct a welfare check and discovered "quite a large crime scene," Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves said.

The identities of the victims have not been released. The case has been ruled a homicide.

The police department has not announced a relationship between Martinez and the victims.

The agency was still waiting Sunday morning for a court order to enter the house and process the crime scene.

From the link @gatekeeper gave:

Police received a court order to process the crime scene Sunday and have determined all of the victims are related and are females, Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves told the Daily News. The three children are between 6-months-old and 6 years-old.

Martinez had a past relationship with one of the adult victims and is the biological father of one of the children, police said.

Authorities did not release a motive or cause of death.

Martinez is also being investigated for the October 2014 death of Christopher Ripley, the 2 year old son of the female murdered Saturday.

The woman murdered Saturday was the ex-girlfriend of Martinez and mother of his 6 month old child who was also murdered by him.

Christopher died in October from head injuries as a result of blunt-force trauma that he suffered while in the care of Martinez.

This shit just keeps getting better and better.

Alright, here's what I could figure out:

Amanda Crews had 3 children when she began dating Martinez, 2 daughters (the 5 and 6 year old victims from Saturday) and Christopher. Martinez and Crews lived together with the children. Crews was a doctor, yes to me that's important.

Martinez was home alone with the children when Christopher's fatal head injury occurred. On September 30, 2014, Christopher was taken to the hospital with a head injury where he later died in October. Martinez alleged that the injury occurred while he was "wrestling" with the child. A fatal head injury. Must have been some old-school WWF wrasslin' with the folding chairs and shit.

One of the daughters reported to her father, Crews' ex-husband, that she saw Martinez hit her brother. Sadly, a judge believed the mother who said her ex-husband was just "poisoning" their daughter against her and her boyfriend. The remaining children were left with Crews.

Martinez and Crews continued to live together until a "couple of months ago" when a Protective Order was issued to protect the remaining children from Martinez in the wake of Christopher's death and the investigation.

Martinez was not immediately arrested because the police consulted experts to debunk Martinez's allegation of wrestling causing the child's death. The experts' reports were just finished.

There you go. I point out Crews occupation because I would think that a doctor would err on the side of caution with her remaining children in light of the death of one. I realize that at this point she was murdered by Martinez and her wrongs aren't exactly death penalty worthy but she horribly failed her children by keeping Martinez around after her son's death. Make no mistake, the blood is solely on his hands but I do honestly feel she could have done more, even sending her remaining children with a relative, something, other than waiting for the state to step in with a PO to try to protect her girls.

edit: krystal just answered a bunch of my questions!

Article says the g/f was a doctor. So even a medical doctor whose kid dies from blunt force trauma while in the care of her b/f still stays with the guy...

...I'm guessing someone capable of murdering 6 people showed warning signs which she ignored...I wonder what the desperate dr's backstory is.

It seems that the courts do not value children's lives as much as adults. You murder or rape or assault an adult, you're usually incarcerated or bail is high. Not so with kids.

Nope. She either knowingly or as a result of her extreme ignorance and dipshittery put her children and herself in extreme danger. Their blood is on her hands as well, no doubt about it. Let no one shed a tear for this bimbo, save em all for her helpless, doomed children, who clearly didn't have the legal system or their mother looking out for their safety.

I highly doubt the previous murder and this massacre were the sole incidents of violence. She no doubt witnessed his rage, likely had been harmed by him at some point, likely witnessed him harming the kids in some manner. She no doubt made her bed, fuck her. Damn shame about the kids though.

All that vitriol spewed, i would be interested in knowing where the ex-husband was during all this, and/or why they're so certain it was martinez. Hopefully i don't end up lookin a fool here...

Just to clear things up a bit, Amanda had two children prior to her relationship with Martinez. She was pregnant with Martinez's daughter when her 2yo son was assaulted, and later died. The 5 yo female victim was a niece of his.

From November 2018
A preliminary hearing that was scheduled to resume in January has been postponed until May for Martin Martinez, a Modesto man accused of killing his girlfriend, her three children, his mother and his niece.

Martinez has remained in custody since Amanda Crews, her two daughters, Martinez’s mother and his niece were found dead inside her east Modesto home more than three years ago.

The 34-year-old man has been charged with five counts of murder. The preliminary hearing in that case began in August 2017 with testimony that indicated that Martinez had a $2 bill with Crews’ blood when he was taken into custody in San Jose.

In a separate case, Martinez has been ordered to stand trial on charges of murder and child abuse in the Oct. 2, 2014, death of Crews’ 2-year-old son, Christopher Ripley. The trial in Christopher’s death has not been scheduled. That case has been set aside, for now, as the case in the 2015 killings moves forward.

A Modesto man has been sentenced to five consecutive life terms in prison in the 2015 killing of five family members.

Martin Martinez was charged with murder in the July 2015 deaths of his mother, a five-year-old niece, his girlfriend Amanda Crews, her six-year-old daughter and his own six-month-old daughter with Crews.
The crimes made Martinez eligible for the death penalty. However, prosecutors arraigned a plea deal where Martinez pleaded guilty to the five murders in exchange for consecutive life sentences.

Martinez also pleaded guilty to a separate 2014 case where he was charged with manslaughter for the death of Crews' two-year-old son.
He will not be eligible for parole.
