A pair of beagle mixes are on the mend after authorities say someone threw them out of a moving vehicle on a snowy New York highway. The dogs were rescued by a passing trucker, but one was so badly mangled that a front leg had to be amputated.

New York State Police on Saturday asked for the public’s help in finding the suspect or suspects in the incident Wednesday morning on Interstate 81. So far, they said, they have no leads.

“These animals have been through a lot, and people need to understand that this is not OK,” said Amberly Ondria, shelter manager for the Broome County Humane Society.

The trucker told investigators that the dogs were thrown out of the right, rear window of a dirty, rusty Dodge Durango heading north toward Cortland.

State police said the trucker immediately stopped his big rig and brought the dogs to safety, scooping up the one that was severely injured while the other one, unscathed other than a few abrasions, followed on his own.

State troopers bandaged the badly injured dog and splinted his leg on the side of the highway, keeping him warm with a blanket and the trucker’s sweatshirt. Meanwhile, the other dog gobbled half a box of dog biscuits.

The dogs were later renamed Trooper, for the state troopers who aided them, and Adam, after the trucker.

Trooper suffered a compound fracture of his distal radius and ulna on the front right leg that was amputated and a hairline fracture of the ulna on the left front leg, as well as broken ribs and contusions to his lungs and shoulder, the humane society said. Because of the damage to his left leg, Trooper will require assistance getting around and perhaps even a harness to stabilize him, Ondria said.

First indication of the person throwing the dogs out was a complete a******* , being in a Dodge Durango! Only fuk faces ride in those things. I do have to say with the first dogs list of extensive injuries, I almost wonder if euthanasia would have been a better option.

I know a little Beagle, he's a fat lil potato ... His best buddy is a gigantic white Husky and they look ridiculously cute together. The Husky is rapey ... but Bandit is always like ... come at me bro ... Nah ... you ain't raping me ... dodge ... dodge ... and the he lets the Husky lick his dick ... because the Husky is actually the the BITCH in that friendship, even though he is a boy. Its adorable.

Beagle best friends Trooper and Adam have found their forever home. 12 News caught the exciting moment.

Back in December, New York State Police say a truck driver claims he saw the two dogs thrown from a moving SUV on Interstate 81.

Both dogs were injured and had to be separated for treatment. Trooper underwent a leg amputation.

Just over 50 days later, however, the two were back on their paws and ready for adoption.

“It’s really a bittersweet day, but it’s nice to see them go home to such an amazing family,” said Broome County Humane Society Adoption Coordinator Todd Hubik.

Their new home is in Earlville, New York where they’ll be cared for by Connie and Roger Miller.

The couple was picked from more than 100 applicants. Qualifications including an up-to-par vet report, references and keeping the dog duo together.

Connie describes the moment they met, “as soon as they walked into the room, it was just they’re going home, if we were prepared we would have taken them home last night.”

The new parents couldn’t be prouder to brag about the newest additions to their family.

“Adam is just full of life, he loves to play, run, fetch, catch and Trooper just kind of the laid back kind of dog, but he loves his partner, so yeah that’s how we feel about it, it’s awesome,” said Roger.

“They’re full of energy and you would never think that something this tragic happened to them,” said Connie.
