They weren't home when the gunmen broke in - but Kendarius and three women, age 36, 23, were.

The shooters, all wearing black masks chased the women through the house. The victims tried to lock themselves in a bedroom, but their assailants kicked in the door.

Police say they sprayed the room with bullets. All three women were wounded, though the injuries were not life-threatening. The baby boy was killed.

Detectives believe Johnson and Smith were responsible for shooting dead Michael Phillips, 29, at a party on May 3.

A third man, Kemontay Cullins, 18, was arrested Sunday in connection with that murder, as well.

On Saturday, five hours before the shooting, police got an anonymous tip that led them to the body of Alexis Malone, 19 - who was a witness to the May 3 shooting of Phillips.

Investigators say that the gunmen who killed little Kendarius were retaliating against Johnson and ~

Smith for the deaths of Phillips and Malone when they opened fire on the three women at the house on Lani Farm Road Saturday.

Police are also seeking a second witness to Phillips' murder, Kayla Dixon.

If anything, if you have the child with you when something like this is going down, they're basically collateral damage. There was a thread recently here where the mom went to score some free pot and she was killed and so was her son who was 2 by the gang members she was trying to pit against each other.

Not even gonna lie, I do believe there will be even more retaliation due to the death of this baby. Nothing gets the blood boiling more than killing an innocent baby.

DeKalb County Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander said Marco Watson, 36, and Devin Thomas, 18, were each charged with one count of murder and three counts of aggravated assault for killing Kendarious Edwards and critically wounding the baby’s mother, grandmother and a family friend during a May 10 home invasion.

“At this point, we know these two were there,” Alexander said at a Thursday morning news conference.

He declined to say if Watson or Thomas pulled the trigger.

Alexander also said detectives don’t know if anyone else was involved and the investigation remains open.

Alexander said the $7,000 reward did not lead to the charges against Watson and Thomas. The investigation led detectives to Watson and Thomas. Watson was in jail for a probation violation and Thomas was in jail on a charge of making a false statement.

The DeKalb County District Attorney's Office announced on Monday that Oslushla Smith, Kemontay Cullins, Cutrez Johnson and Kayla Dixon have been indicted on various murder and aggravated assault charges.

According to the indictment, it started on May 3, 2014 with a fight involving Alexis Malone that got out of control at a Stone Mountain apartment complex. Other members of the Bloods street gang arrived and the incident escalated leading to the shooting death of Michael Phillips.

A few days later, authorities believe Smith lured 17-year-old Malone to a wooded area and killed her using a rock to her head and face. Investigators believe Smith had become concerned that Malone would reveal details to police about the previous shooting.

Police eventually caught up to Smith and Johnson after a long SWAT standoff in Atlanta. Cullins and Dixon turned themselves into police.

A Georgia gang leader is charged with ordering a retaliation hit from behind bars that killed a baby boy, officials say.

Kenneth Eric Jackson, who the DeKalb County District Attorney says is the highest ranking member of the Sex Money Murder Bloods gang in Georgia, was indicted on murder and gang charges for his alleged role in the May 2014 shooting death of nine-month-old KenDarious Edwards Jr.

Allegedly acting on Jackson's orders, officials say several masked gang members forced their way into a Decatur home and opened fire on the child, his mother, his grandmother, and a family friend as the women cowered in a bathroom.

"You're talking about a nine-month-old helpless child, and three women who tried to protect that child," Cedric Alexander, DeKalb County Chief of Police, said at a Tuesday press conference.

The three women were all shot and wounded, Alexander said. The infant was killed.

The District Attorney's office says Jackson used a contraband mobile phone while incarcerated at Autry State Prison to order the hit in retaliation for the death of another gang member, allegedly killed by the child's uncle.

"This was a ruthless act ordered by a gang leader looking to spread fear and intimidation," DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James said in a statement.

Jackson, also known as "KG the God," and two alleged gunmen -- Marco Watson and Christopher Florence - are charged with malice murder, felony murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault and violation of Georgia's Street Gang and Terrorism Act.

KenDarious Edwards would’ve been a preschooler this year.

Instead, an ordered gang hit killed the 9-month-old four years ago as his mother, Tanyika Smith, cradled him in her arms while hiding in a bathtub.

DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gregory Adams sentenced Sex Money Murder gang leader Kenneth Jackson to life in prison plus 90 years in the May 2014 killing, DeKalb district attorney spokeswoman Yvette Jones said.

Jackson, 33, ordered the hit from his Autry State Prison cell in Pelham, Ga., in retaliation for an unauthorized shooting by fellow gang member Oslushsla Smith. Jackson, along with two other gang members — Christopher Florence and Marco Fernando Watson — were convicted in the killing last month.

Adams also sentenced Florence, 33, to life in prison plus 95 years. Neither he nor Jackson were given parole. Watson, 39, was sentenced to 10 years on weapons charges in connection with the crime.

A fourth man, Devin Thomas, a mid-level member of Sex Money Murder and the actual triggerman, was convicted in November 2015 of killing Edwards and is serving life plus 20 years in prison in a plea deal that let him avoid the death penalty.

The sordid details of that bloody night began May 3, 2014 when Michael Phillips, 29, was fatally shot at a Stone Mountain house party where a group had gathered to watch boxer Floyd Mayweather defend his title.

That night, Bloods gang member Alexis Malone got into a fight with a woman when Tanyika Smith’s brother and Sex Money Murder member Oslushsla Smith, jumped in to help Malone and fatally shot Phillips.

Worried she had talked to police, Oslushsla Smith fatally shot Malone — an unauthorized hit that would cost him his nephew’s life. Smith was later convicted in the crime.

Jackson had ordered shooters to find Smith, but when they couldn’t, the gang leader ordered a hit on Smith’s mother’s To Lani Farm Road home.

Police said gang members Watson and Florence, along with Thomas, forced their way into the home of KenDarious' grandmother in the shooting.

Tanyika Smith was hit eight times in the attack while hiding in a bathtub with her son. She suffered permanent damage to her vision and sense of smell and taste when one of the bullets lodged in her face.
