Terrence Bennett was caught sexµally abusing his dog after a neighbour heard the animal's 'sickening' cries of pain has avoided time behind bars.

Bennett, 67, was banned from keeping animals indefinitely after a passerby saw him abusing his pet, Ali, through a gap in his curtains, a court heard.

The 'anxious' Staffordshire bull-terrier and Rottweiler cross was revealed to have suffered injuries and was given to the RSPCA.
Bennett denied doing anything with the dog claiming he had been 'brushing' the animal during the trial, alleging the injuries were caused by bones eaten by the pet.

But, he was found guilty of one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
The 67-year-old has now been handed a suspended sentence and an indefinite ban on keeping animals at Portsmouth Magistrates Court.

Sentencing Bennett, District Judge David Robinson described the scene witnessed by neighbour Kelly Nelson as 'disgusting'.

He said: '[She] is still traumatised to this day by what she saw. You caused Ali a substantial level of pain.
'The aggravating feature is the nature of this disgusting act which you inflicted on the dog for your sexµal pleasure.

'I am going to disqualify you from keeping animals, I am going to make it indefinite because I am concerned there may be repetition of behaviour such as this.'
Mitigating, Roni Pittman explained that Bennett is 'vulnerable' and has been 'hugely affected' by isolation in his area, dating back to before this incident.

She said: 'Bennett has had trouble in the local area for a number of years.

'His issues have affected his physical and mental health, isolation in the area has had a huge effect on him.'
In his defence, Mr Bennett insisted he would never have sëx with his dog and that the rear injuries may have been caused by her eating bones.

He said: 'I swear on my mother's life, I would not do that sort of thing. I certainly was not doing that, I was brushing her maybe.

'I think it is disgusting. I swear the injuries were not by me, she has been eating a lot of bones.'

He also claimed that Ali was an anxious dog because she had been bitten by a previous owner.
Bennett was given a year suspended sentence and was ordered to complete 25 rehabilitation days and to pay £128 statutory surcharge and costs of £400.

He has been disqualified from keeping animals indefinitely, a decision which can't be appealed for five years.

Nah, he should be locked up for at least a little while. He got a slap on the wrist for traumatizing his neighbor and dog - plus, he physically hurt the dog, too!
My big doggy Harley hated being brushed and would cry, but you can tell the difference between fear cries and pain cries when they last a while. Maybe it could be confused if it's a quick yelp, but if it's long enough for a neighbor to hear it, think about it, be concerned and then go looking...you should be able to tell. Plus, they saw it, god bless 'em. Brushing looks nothing like...that.

I might let the old guy have a fish...
Oh God. Not if you'd seen the video I found as a teen that still gives me the 1000 yard stare when I think of it. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Why, why are people like this?
