In a statement, Sheriff Jordan Kight says it all began with a 911 call Friday night, just before 8 p.m.

On the line, the 4-year-old's mother said the child was unresponsive and on the way to the hospital. EMS met up with her at a gas station and immediately jumped in to help the child.

Despite those efforts, the 4-year-old died shortly after arriving at a Vidalia hospital.

Kight quickly requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation step in to help his office investigate. That joint investigation led to the arrests of both parents: 26-year-old Seth Brown and 29-year-old Taylor Marie Hughes.

The pair was charged with first-degree cruelty to children, felony murder, malice murder and aggravated battery.

Allegedly (From Social Media)

The mother sat there and let him beat her 4yo child to death with a belt while her other children watched and she did nothing to save her. Supposedly he’s been beating them and the other children have bruises too. Cps has been involved for a while but a worker who is supposedly her friend, let her know every time they planned to come to her house.

the worker who let them know every time cps planned to go to her house should also be charged with the same charges as the so called "parents" .. that "worker" contributed very much in the death of that poor child as she knew what was going on or else there wouldn't be a need to worn them of cps intended visits...

That CPS worker should be fired.

In what a district attorney called a ‘heart-wrenching situation’, a Georgia woman will spend years behind bars for the death of her young daughter.
Last Thursday, Taylor Marie Hughes, of Lyons, pleaded guilty in Toombs County Superior Court for the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Reese Carter Hughes.
The plea stems from the investigation that began on March 14. Toombs County deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive child. The caller informed dispatch that they were en route to the hospital from their home. Emergency responders met the caller at the Enmarket convenience store at West Liberty Street and South Victory Drive in Lyons.

Paramedics immediately began life-saving measures while headed to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, authorities said. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Reese Hughes was pronounced dead.
Taylor Hughes pleaded guilty to one count of felony murder and two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree. She was sentenced to life plus twenty concurrent.

Brown is still awaiting trial.
