WASHINGTON — President Biden said Tuesday that Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been “cooperative” with him as Hurricane Milton nears the Sunshine State — one day after Vice President Kamala Harris complained that DeSantis didn’t take her call.

“The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He said he’s gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again yesterday,” Biden said at the White House before heading to Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to campaign for Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, and Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.).

“I literally gave him my personal phone number to call,” Biden added of DeSantis. “So I don’t know — there was a rough start in some places, but every governor, every governor from Florida to North Carolina, has been fully cooperative and supportive and acknowledged what this team is doing.”

Biden warned that Milton “could be the worst storm to hit Florida in over a century” — as the Category 4 hurricane traverses the Gulf of Mexico and is on track for landfall near Tampa Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Harris, 59, attacked DeSantis on Monday, accusing him of being “utterly irresponsible” and “selfish” in not taking her call last week in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Florida Sept. 26.

As Governor DeSantis said she has never played a role in any of the other hurricanes that have hit Florida since 01/20/2021, which are Ian (x2), Nicole, Idalia, Lee, Debby, Helene and soon to be Milton, why would she suddenly start at this late date? Instead of making a phone call, she should have just gone to the worst hit areas, North Carolina and now Florida and be there with the people that's she, now all of a sudden, seems so concerned about, pass out water, helped in doing whatever needed to do be done, but she didn't do that, she made a phone call, and then when she didn't get the response she thought that she deserved she says it's DeSantis playing political games. That's from a person who only knows how to play games, political and otherwise.

DeSantis rips Harris again for butting into Milton response: ‘No role in this process’​

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis briefed President Biden on the fallout from Hurricane Milton Thursday morning while hammering Vice President Kamala Harris once again over her swipe at him for not taking her call earlier this week.

The Sunshine State governor chided that Harris “doesn’t understand what it means to respond to these natural disasters,” and again accused her of politicizing the crisis.

“She has no role in this process. And I’ve been dealing with these storms in Florida under both [former President Donald] Trump and [President] Biden. Neither of them ever politicized it,” DeSantis told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” hours after Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane.

“In fact [during] all of the storms I dealt with under this administration, although I worked well with the president, she has never called … She has never offered any support,” the Republican emphasized. “She’s trying to inject herself into this because of her political campaign.”
