Blackface, yes. Handguns, no.

Canada moved to make the sale of handguns illegal under a sweeping new bill introduced in Ottawa Monday in the wake of the Uvalde, Texas school shooting.

Flanked by government officials and advocates, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a “national freeze” on firearms in the country as he referenced increasing homicides in Canada and alluded to recent mass shootings south of the border.

“It will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada. In other words, we’re capping the market for handguns,” Trudeau said.

“People should be free to go to the supermarket, their school or their place of worship without fear.”

The legislation is all but assured to be approved by Canada’s Parliament, and is expected to be enacted this fall. The country has already unveiled plans to ban 1,500 types of military-style firearms and implement a mandatory buyback program of high-capacity weapons.

Trudeau has long said capping gun violence in the country was a political priority, but his new legislation came less than a week after the Robb Elementary School shooting and soon after a Buffalo supermarket rampage near Ontario’s border.

this should be interesting...

Its funny to see Americans all up in arms(pun intended) over this. This sounds worse than it is and it effects almost no one. Americans are going nuts over it but I've seen very few Canadians who give two fucks.

First off, we dont have C&C permits(we do have one but its limited for people like police etc).

Second, its already pretty much illegal to own a handgun. There are so any restrictions on handguns..things like barrel sizes, ammo it takes, the legality of transporting one(its technically illegal) etc..only 2.3% of Canadian households have a handgun and that number includes police lol

Third, our self defense laws are very very different than American ones. Self defense with a firearm is a grey ish area with a lot of laws around it. We do not defend ourselves with handguns.

In short, we use our guns for hunting and target practice...the type that doesnt involve little kids or during the commission of a crime.

I'm assuming the criminals will be the only ones with guns then!
You'd be mistaken. Theres over 10 million registered guns in Canada. We just like to use long rifles instead of AK's and pistols

WH forced to clarify Biden remarks, says he won’t back handgun sale ban

The White House said Tuesday that President Biden does not support a Canada-style ban on handgun sales in the wake of a pair of mass shootings last month — the latest example of administration members having to clear up their boss’s remarks.

“We’ll leave it up to other countries to set their policy on gun ownership,” Jean-Pierre said during her regular briefing. “The president has made his position clear: The United States needs to act. As I just laid out, he supports a ban on the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and expanded background checks to keep guns out of the — dangerous hands.

“He does not support a ban on the sale of all handguns, to answer your question,” the press secretary added in response to Fox News’ Peter Doocy, who had asked: “Canada is making it impossible to buy, sell, transfer, or import handguns anywhere in that country. Would President Biden ever consider a similar restriction on handguns here?”

@VLGRDSPLY Yeah..dont believe everything you see in a youtube video. Sales have gone up but they arent even close to selling out.

Like I said its really really hard to get licenced for a handgun in Canada. You cant just run down get a background check and pick up your fancy new gun like you can in the states.

You have to first pass a multi day safety course before you can even apply for your license. The application for PAL(possession and acquisition licence) then takes weeks to be processed. Then you have to find the gun you want, fill in and process the registration for the gun..all before you ever get possession of the gun. With handguns theres an extra licence involved called a restricted firearms licence.

The average joe is not running out and stocking up on handguns lol

I assumed it to more be people that have already gone through those checks... going and buying more

Every state in the US has different laws - I think a lot of people think we just walk n and walk back out with a gun - NH is a state with some of the most lax laws- it still took me a few days to get my first gun.

Also Canada and the US are very different - we care so much because it is our constitutional right - much like freedom of speech which Canada also doesnt have.

If we let the government take away 1 constitutional right - they will go after the rest, and we can't let that happen!

I carry a pistol for self protection, I have an AR because it is fun to shoot, and I also have rifles. I took safety classes with my son - who was 12 at the time. Most everyone I know owns a gun - we go to the shooting ranges for fun. Even my friends in MA (next state over 5 mins away) which have strict gun laws - you have to take the safety classes etc, have to pass a stricter back-ground check than just the federal one, have to get a license/pistol permit etc. it can take months

Canada’s woke black face is a funny, whatever gender he considers himself. Thing is no pistol was used in Uvalde
But than when Obama says it’s ok for you to be in black face, everything you do must be ok

Try buying a weapon or cartridges in Commifornica, if you can even find them. Commifornica gets around the second amendment buy making constant new laws to impede gun manufacturers from being able to produce weapons that comply and makes importing cartridges illegal.
In Commifornica it’s illegal for me to hand someone a box of cartridges at the range, without going through a dealer filling out the proper paperwork and paying a transfer fee

true Uvalde wasnt hand guns and that is what Canada is going after but here in the US all they keep talking about is AR's etc. fully automatic weapons (which you really cant get) yet handguns make up for way more shootings etc...

"Handguns are the most common weapon type used in mass shootings in the United States, with a total of 146 different handguns being used in 98 incidents between 1982 and June 2022. These figures are calculated from a total of 129 reported cases over this period, meaning handguns are involved in about 76 percent of mass shootings. "

It is SO had to listen to these idiots on TV talking about guns when you can tell they CLEARLY have NO idea what they are talking about....

that is crazy!! In NH I can order a shit ton of ammo offline, they deliver it to a gun store near me, and I just go pick it up - all I need to do is show my license..

For xmas I got 1,000 rounds of ammo for my AR-15 packaged in a cool green metal army type case, a bunch of .380 and a bunch of .22 - ordered it online and went n picked t up a week later.

How do people stay in Cali???? I don't get it?

I am surprised you stay from what I know of you on here, lol

I left MA and came to NH around 20 years ago... granted its only 25 mins from my old house to here though - so it wasnt a "big move" and I still work in MA, so they still get a bunch of my money through taxes (bastards)

And here in NV we can get that shit sent directly to us. Haven't had to go down to the gun shop in ages (Not since I had to pick up some additional magazines).

Currently have 150 rnds of .40 500 rnds of 9mm and it was all shipped to my house.

@knockout you buy it, I will get it here, and you can come pick it up. LOL

Such a great Idea! Here in Oregon Overdoses are up 700% & Deaths up 120%, Can we please get some legislation like this for the Sale and Transfer of fentanyl? I mean considering we want our streets and citizens safe, and this is such a wonderful idea that will be extremely effective and all. Oh wait........
