23-year-old Pontiac man is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond, in connection to the death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter on Dec. 20.

Shean Troy Amerson is being charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse.

Deputies responded on Dec. 18 due to a report of an unconscious 3-year-old. When authorities arrived at the scene they found the child unconscious and not breathing. Matthews was taken to the hospital, and later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit where she died on Dec. 20.

Hospital staff told detectives that Matthews had multiple broken ribs, multiple round wounds on her legs, two black eyes, severe head trauma, a collapsed lung, and her torso was consistent with being burned by a lit cigarette.

“It’s hard to imagine a human being can be so cruel and inhumane,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “This poor tortured child deserved to be treated as a blessing and loved. We will hold the responsible accountable.”

well supposedly mom here is something for you.. first you called you own child not once but at least 2xs a m.f. baby/child.. second about the cigarette burns what is wrong with you were all those burns done in one day ? what the hell did you think caused those round wounds? bug bites that only she got? or didn't you ever noticed... you said he was with you 2 years and you had child together did those round wounds started happening after the birth of his own baby? or did you even notice or was he the one bathing your child and doing everything else like dressing her daily ?? the only way a mother wouldn't notice those marks would be if they all happened on the one day even if you didn't know what cig. burn marks look like if my child had "bug bites" that re-occured over and over again and was the only one that got them any parent would have brought that child to see a dr. and find out if she/he was allergic to a common bug bite as it didn't affect any other member of the household.. so woman clean up you mouth and don't ever ever call any child a m.f. sorry about the rant about the "mother" but her comments made me so angry grrrrrrrrrrrr.... and @Sugar Cookie .... you did it again made me cry when i saw the pics of that beautiful little one

Free Quality child care and family planning , early childhood education would go a long way to prevent some of these horrendous injuries suffered by our innocent ,defenseless children . After years of court appearances, Amerson was taken to trial on Jan. 22, 2026. He was found guilty of the lesser offense of involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.

On March 23, Amerson was sentenced to 86 months with a maximum of 15 years in prison.
