An 11-year-old girl was accidentally shot dead by her father at a hunting lease in Texas, according to reports.

Police from the Harrison County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) were alerted to a hunting accident involving an 11-year-old girl at about 5:05 p.m. on November 27, KMHT Radio reported.

In additional calls, it was established the father had accidentally shot his daughter with a high-powered rifle.

When HCSO deputies and emergency medical service teams arrived, they found the young girl had suffered life-threatening gunshot injuries.

While an emergency care flight was requested, all helicopters in the region were grounded due to poor weather conditions, according to the station.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, who administered lifesaving care, the young girl was pronounced dead.

HCSO investigators and a crime scene investigator responded with members from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and will carry out a further investigation into the shooting, according to KMHT Radio.

The name of the victim will not be released until all family members are notified about her death, police said.

Sheriff Brandon Fletcher told the radio station: "Anytime a young person loses their life, it's tragic for all involved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends during this difficult time."

The girl's parents agreed to release her name, Daisy Grace Lynn George, 11, a 6th grader from Hallsville.
If she was wearing proper safety gear she couldn’t have been a mistaken target, was he improperly carrying his rifle, shooting with her in front of him, mishandling while cleaning- scopes- etc.. so many questions..

Never shoot unless you know exactly what you're dealing with. I use to work with a guy who's dad from California came to Missouri for his first deer hunt. Well his dad saw what he thought was a very fast deer running so he shot it. Turns out it was some African elk or antelope that escaped from a farm. Guy didn't get in any trouble but it was a shitty deal.

Also orange is your friend during deer season. When I was a kid in Kansas during rifle deer season we stayed the fuck out of the woods because there are assholes all over the woods with high power rifles. Its worse now with all the out of state and urban hunters. One year a mule got shot by some city asshole who thought it was a deer.

Back in the late 70's when I worked at a big insurance company (that no longer exists), the Manager who overlooked various insurance agents and agencies, accidentally shot and killed his nephew while hunting. See him and having to say condolences was very difficult. I'm sure he was never the same after that.

I hope dad contributed by selling his gun (s) because he should never be allowed to own another again.
