An Ohio mother of two was killed by a blind date while her two children were in the next room, Dayton police said.
Shanika Bogan, 31, was killed last week in her apartment. Her 10-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were home at the time but did not witness the killing.
"She was set up basically in kind of a blind date type of situation," Dayton Police Lieutenant Jason Hall told People on Thursday. "He was obviously pursuing a romantic relationship with her."
Dayton police were called to Bogan's apartment on Uhrig Avenue by her mother, Tracie Berry, around 6 a.m. on April 30. Berry first became concerned last Friday morning when she did not receive the usual text message from her daughter. She drove over to Bogan's house and found her dead inside the apartment.
On Thursday morning, police arrested 28-year-old Kendall Beasley on a murder warrant. He is facing murder and felonious assault charges, according to court documents.
Dayton police told Newsweek that Bogan's cause and manner of death is still under investigation and has not been released.
'I'm going to give your mama a massage,'" Berry said on Wednesday. "I know he went in the bedroom and shut the door...and he came out, told my grandson, 'She's taking a nap—get [yourself] some cereal to snack on and I'll be back'...and left."
On April 5, Beasley was released from Ohio's London Correctional Institution, where he served six years for aggravated burglary and intimidating a victim. The case involved a woman.
