San Antonio police have tracked down and arrested a woman who had been the subject of a missing persons investigation for weeks.

Records show D’Lanny Chairez, 20, was booked into jail early Tuesday morning on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child.

Police put out an alert earlier this month about Chairez who, along with her 18-month-old son, James Chairez had been reported missing.

An arrest warrant affidavit says relatives told police they were concerned because they hadn’t seen the baby since around Thanksgiving.

Police also released two clips taken from surveillance cameras inside a drug store and on a VIA bus.

The store video appeared to show Chairez pushing a stroller, while there was no evidence of a baby in the bus video.

The affidavit says investigators believe Chairez may have abandoned the child.

It says she refused to answer questions from investigators but told them she did not feel prepared to be a mother and considered giving the baby up for adoption.

Investigators say they searched her trailer and found a bedsheet from a crib with what proved to be human blood on it.

SAPD investigators believe baby James is still in the San Antonio area.

“D’Lanny”

The horrible name choices span generations and ethnic backgrounds.

I have a cousin named Delaney. Why couldn’t this woman’s mother choose such a more respectable spelling? You’re naming a HUMAN, not a cabbage patch kid. Hint: whatever name you’re thinking of (to burden your child with for his/her entire life), picture it on a business card with an executive title. Such as, D’Lanny Smith, CEO of Whatever. If it doesn’t look professional in your mind, DITCH the cutesy spelling and go for something more appropriate for when your child grows into the executive you will never be.

When choosing a name for my one and only, I considered something similar to @Mountaineer95. How does "Dr. Candy Smith" or "Judge Sereniti Adams" sound as an adult? Not very professional. Some names are cutsie when you're a child, but you're an adult a lot longer and your name should carry with you. I'm not opposed to unique names or spellings at all, but "Precious Jazzlyn Sunshine Naveah Goldberg" ain't gonna cut it in real life.

And I hope little James is okay, but I've spent way too much time on this site to be very positive. Bitch had options and she chose wrong--very very wrong.

@Mountaineer95 .. I am one of those terrible mom’s.. Kyleigh - Adyson - Kaiden - Carlie.. weird or not they’re beautiful and unique..

Oh no, I don’t think your chosen spellings are bad!! I like them all! I just think “D’Lanny” is bad. And I stand by that statement. But all of your kids’ names are pronounceable and names that they can proudly display on business cards when they’re older. Just not D’Lanny. I can’t see any circumstance where that name will be useful on a business card. I stand by my original statement, and I also respect your name choices and spellings. Xoxo.

And BTW, I have a fairly common name that my mom chose to spell “differently”. Back in the 80s, when personalized stickers were a thing, I couldn’t find ONE with my name spelled “right”. But my name, even with its unusual spelling, isn’t so weird that I’d be laughed out of a conference room. In fact, I worked over two decades in an industry where women were scarce at best, and I proudly touted my (misspelled). I just don’t care for names that are not only misspelled, but also phonetically wrong (D’Lanny is phonetically pronounced “Deh LAN e” rather than the “Delaney” that the mom probably was striving for).

I never said you’re a terrible mom. I never mentioned or addressed your children, your childrens’ names, anyone related to you, or you personally. I specifically addressed the name of D’Lanny, and in the context of this story only. Do you have an issue with my specific comments about this story and THIS name? Feel free to address that directly and specifically.

Please tell me how I offended you personally. I criticized the name D’Lanny (and dare I say rightfully so) but I did NOT criticize any of the names you gave your kids nor did I criticize your other childrens’ or grandchildrens’ names. How did I offend you? Specifically?

I’m over being accused of things I didn’t do or didn’t say. This thread exemplifies that. And the fact that the supposed “victim” of my ire won't address this claim in any way after I’ve asked her to just backs up my claim of innocence.

Slow your roll @Mountaineer95 .. that was NOT a personal attack or a blame game .. I cause NO drama on DD .. it was a playful comment nothing more .. I was actually laughing when I typed it.. I don’t create issues .. so step back .. read it how it was meant .. playful banter .. nothing more.. I didn’t ignore you I work for a living..

SAN ANTONIO — A Texas mother who vanished with her young son is now in police custody as authorities continue to search for the missing toddler, authorities said.

According to KENS and KABB, San Antonio police announced Tuesday that they arrested D'Lanny Reaneille Chairez, 20, on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child in connection with the disappearance of her 18-month-old son, James. (San Antonio Police Department)

In court documents, police said they found Chairez and questioned her at the department’s headquarters Monday, more than two months after she and the boy were last seen together on a Walgreen’s security camera Jan. 4.

“The suspect refused to answer any questions pertaining to the whereabouts of the victim but spoke about wanting to give him up for adoption,” the documents said, according to KENS. “The suspect spoke at length about her mental health issues and wanted the victim to be in a better place. She also spoke about not being ready to be a mother. She stated that the victim ‘deserves better.’”

The documents also alleged that Chairez previously told a family member “inconsistent” stories about the toddler’s whereabouts, saying “she gave him away to multiple different people for adoption.”

Police said a Walgreen’s camera showed Chairez inside the store Feb. 21, but the child was not with her, the news outlets reported.

“From this date to the present, the suspect is only seen without the victim,” the documents said, adding that family members last saw the boy on Thanksgiving.

According to the documents, police searched Chairez’s home multiple times and discovered “apparent blood ... on a sheet that is consistent with a crib sheet.” Tests confirmed that the substance was human blood, the documents said. Investigators also said James’ car seat, stroller and other items remained in the home, KENS reported.

San Antonio police continue to look for James and are asking anyone who may have seen him to call the department’s missing persons unit at 210-207-7660.

Affidavit: Blood discovered on apparent crib sheet inside mother's home; toddler still missing

Family fears missing baby dead after mother is found, arrested in San Antonio

Court records reveal new information in the case of a 20-year-old mother and her still missing toddler son. The San Antonio Police Department announced on Tuesday morning that D’Lanny Chairez is under arrest.

According to an affidavit, Chairez was brought into SAPD headquarters on Monday. It states she refused to answer any questions about her 18-month-old son, James Avi Chairez, but says she "spoke about wanting to give him up for adoption" and that she spoke at length about her mental health issues and wanted the victim to "be in a better place." It also said she spoke about not being ready to be a mother and that her son "deserves better."

The affidavit goes on to say, "Multiple search warrants were conducted at the suspect's residence. Apparent blood was found on a sheet that is consistent with a crib sheet. This sheet tested positive for human blood. The victim's items; car seat, stroller, diapers, toys, etc. were left in the trailer."

Everything needed/required in the care of baby James still at the residence.

In my opinion the fact that the car seat was still there speaks volumes.

Interesting

“That is a life-long impact to the infant or the baby even the parent who is still there trying to raise the child,” Yvette Sanchez, the chief operating officer at The Children’s Shelter.

Video from two years ago, shows Baby James’ father, Matthew James Dempsey being taken into custody by police.

In 2019, San Antonio police say Dempsey, then just 18-years old, killed his own mother while robbing her.

He was convicted later that year and is currently serving a 42-year sentence.

Baby James' maternal grandmother, Patricia Flores, is also serving time for murder.

Police from a Fort Worth suburb say back in 2016, she scalded her 2-year old grandson with hot bath water.

Flores didn't get him medical help for six days and the grandson later died from an infection.
Flores began serving a 57-year sentence in 2017.

"When we talk about trauma we're talking about experiences that they've might've had, the father might've had, the grandmother might've had,” Sanchez said.
