What excuse would he have for raping a 92 year old woman? Only guesses I have are stupid or hard up.

A man who subjected a 92-year-old to a "horrific and degrading" sexual assault after breaking into her Sydney home in the middle of the night has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Craig Anthony Wheatman claimed to not remember what happened in the woman's Concord home, in the city's inner west, on January 23 this year because he was "blacked out" drunk.

But the 29-year-old admitted to charges including aggravated sexual assault, aggravated break and enter, sexually touching a person without consent and two counts of common assault.

The NSW District Court heard the victim was threatened with pruning shears during the sexual assault and later doused in cooking oil, vinegar and Dettol in her shower as Wheatman attempted to cover up his crime.

Before he fled, he stole the victim's wallet, keys, phone and medical alarm pendant, which was set off after he had escaped.

Judge Donna Woodburn said the victim, who was vulnerable due to her advanced years and frailty, suffered "rough and humiliating treatment" in a place where she was entitled to feel safe.

"This was deplorable offending committed against an elderly and vulnerable victim in her own home," the judge said in sentencing.

"The victim and her family must have suffered terribly in comprehending the harm done to the victim."

The judge called it a "horrific and degrading attack" and rejected any suggestion Wheatman was trying to be nice or kind to the woman in the shower.

Rather, she said it was "selfish and demeaning" conduct designed to rid the scene of DNA which he knew could implicate him.

The court heard Wheatman was so rough with the woman during the attack that at one point she thought her knee was going to break.

The judge said the theft of the very items that might have allowed the woman to call for help was also to be seriously regarded.

Judge Woodburn imposed a maximum sentence of 14 years with a non-parole period of nine years and three months.
He will be eligible for parole in April 2030.
