Two teen parents are facing homicide charges in the death of their infant.

Samantha May Hance, 19, and Gilbert Raymond Ortiz, 16, pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in Yellowstone County District Court on Friday.

In both cases, Judge Ashley Harada continued bail at $500,000, after arrest warrants were issued in that amount.

The eight-week-old infant died March 27.

Because Ortiz is a juvenile, the case will require a hearing to decide whether it should be transferred to youth court.

Ortiz is being held at the Youth Services Center, and Hance is being held at the county jail.

An autopsy showed broken ribs, collar bone and arms, according to charges. The medical examiner determined the baby died from neglect.

Both Ortiz and Hance told investigators they were unaware of any physical abuse of the baby, but Hance did acknowledge she’d seen her boyfriend treat their baby roughly, charges state. When asked about the broken bones, she allegedly said that if she had to guess, she would attribute the fractures to Ortiz.

Ortiz denied neglecting or abusing the baby in an interview with detectives.

Investigators reviewed text messages between the parents in which Ortiz apologized for taking out his anger on Hance and the baby, and Hance warned him to be less aggressive with the baby.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am posting this, but my beautiful daughter, Serenity Rose Marie, has passed away. 1/29/2020 - 3/27/2020 We aren't quite sure why she passed. All we know for now is that she got very sick a went about a week without being able to hold anything down. What matters is that she is in a better place now, being watched and cared for my the best of people. We will never forget you my love. You're my whole world and more. I love you so much... I just want to hold you again.

They never should have been allowed to leave the hospital with that baby, just based on looks alone. And this will not be the last time we see them on here, together or individually. How exactly does one neglect a baby that young? I mean, they let you know when they need something.

Darn it! This travesty happened in/around Billings. Both parents are disgraceful for having facilitated this, especially the angsty teen sperm donor scumbag (who looks the part). They have beyond disgraced their attempts at family and nurturing vulnerable members thereof.

This is not nearly as important, but the lighting and quality of the top picture is mediocre, and the bottom picture's lighting is hideous. They definitely do not know what they're doing in that department, either.

Who allowed them to take a new baby home from the hospital??? Where were the grannies and grandpas?? No one checked or visited? I hope they get life.

Dumb kids having kids! I had a kid young... That was the worse shit ever possible lol. Holding down jobs and school.... But I'd do it all over again! She came out to be a great teen better then I ever was lol. I also got married young huge mistake. Everyone told me you never marry your high school sweetheart. My dumb ass always said we knew each other before highschool we always change together! Bahahaha. I'd still never take it back of course bc my child is well worth the struggle

Same with my sis. Luckily we were around to help her out. Those were...interesting times.
 
I know pictures can be deceiving, but going back to what I replied before-this baby doesn’t look “neglected” in the sense that she doesn’t look malnourished, dirty, uncared for-so what in the hell does died from neglect mean.

The newspaper article is shit for details-she had broken ribs (how many? Old? New?), collar bone, and...arms? Both arms? What bones? Seriously? After all of these findings the medical examiner comes back with NEGLECT?!?!

That sounds right off the bat fucking hinkey. Like they’re going to try for some, “young parents didn’t know what they were doing,” kind of defense. Is the medical examiner a moron or the mother’s uncle.

Sorry for my “ “ overuse. And I hope the report and charges are just a sneaky way to lead these two pathetic creatures into indicted themselves and not an an avenue to skate free.

I was in jail with this bitch apparently she was pregnant again when she was in jail, had her new baby in jail, obv was unable to keep child. She was very well loved by the other girls, but she was only liked because she sold her commissary or her pills for others commissary or pills or the jail house alcohol. They all called her baby mama or Lil mama, I thought it was a sick joke, like a snide comment, but they liked her and shrugged off the fact she allowed her boyfriend to no0t only abuse the child but sexually abuse the child. lol on the grrrrrrrrrrrrrr but i did and my neighbour was walking by my door and knocked to see if i was alright... she is also my friend so we had a good laugh about the grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... and yea the grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr was when i read the sentence they got then i read your comment ... @Sugar Cookie the cookie is for the update not their sentence
