Woman Who Shamed Starbucks Barista Speaks Out, Barista's GoFundMe Grows

A San Diego woman who was denied service at a Starbucks coffee shop for refusing to wear a mask says she’s received death threats after publicly shaming the barista who refused her on social media.

The woman says she wants some of the money raised for the barista in a GoFundMe and is threatening to sue the page creator for defamation and slander


A GoFundMe page established on behalf of the barista has raised almost $25,000 in four days.

“I never threatened him, I just called him out on his actions. I never threatened him and I’ve received death threats, thousands, it’s very upsetting. It’s very scary,” said Amber Lynn Gilles.

Shortly after being refused service, Gilles posted a photograph of barista Lenin Gutierrez on her Facebook page.

The post reads: “Meet Lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.”

Face coverings are mandatory inside businesses in San Diego County. Public Health officials said businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone not complying with the public health order. Medical conditions that would be inhibited by face masks are one of the few exemptions to wearing face masks.

Gilles, 35, has three children and considers herself an anti-vaxxer. She says face masks are ineffective.

I hate the mask thing. Beyond annoying, but hey, it's just bloody easier to wear the damn thing while in the store than it is to argue the fact.

You walk to the door, put your mask on, get your shit and leave, then take the mask off.

Do I personally think they work, well no, not the shitty cloth masks that everyone is buying.

I hate them too, but it’s easier to put it on, get on with whatever it is and then leave! I have asthma so breathing through a face mask is a struggle, but I’ve got other things to do besides petty nonsense at Starbucks.

Unfortunately...people have assumed that everything is back to normal. You can tell by the return of traffic, the lines at grocery, everything. The tiny action of putting a little mask on, could make a huge difference. That it back to quarantine. The dramatic spikes in covid cases have proven that people just dont think they can harm others or be harmed. It sucks.

So I listened to her rant about “I never threatened him” and she managed to throw in something about ‘mark of the beast’.... Really? Is that from the mask or from coffee? Now I’m confused. If the hucow (human cow) doesn’t want to participate in the game - buying stuff in public - then stay home. This isn’t complicated.

Thank you, Totes. I am in the high risk group (genetic heart condition), so I have to be extra careful. I very much appreciate that you are willing to wear a mask, even though you don't feel they help. This is what a decent human does when opinions differ, but lives are potentially at stake.
 
The cloth type masks, such as, when worn by the unknowing-infected, massively decrease their spreading the disease by blocking in the vapor particles from their breathing and talking. In particular when allowed to just fly out of people's mouths and noses, the vapor particles can hang in the air for a long time and project farther than you would necessarily realize.

The point is to decrease the spread through the population, saving people as a group. When worn by everyone, it prevents people on the whole from passing it around. So, each member participates, and only because the whole group is participating, the individuals benefit.

And, all it takes is one idiot bitch like this one to break the chain, since the masks aren't so protective to the wearing individual and she's spewing her shit everywhere without one.

Oh, and back on topic, any anti-vaxxer bitch such as this doesn't have the mental capacity to process this stuff anyway. Fuck her. She should perhaps go kill herself because she is ungrateful for life anyway, and is ignoring the likelihood that her life was probably made possible by vaccines (such as, smallpox vaccine in history, measles vaccine, probably one of her parents or grandparents' lives would have been interfered with and she would not have been born otherwise).
 
I don't think that either one of them deserve money, but especially Miss Anti Vaxxer. I dealt with shit like this from people almost every day when I worked retail (40yrs) and no one ever thought to give me any money. Some people think that whatever they want should be accommodated, doesn't matter if you get fired over it.

Around here too, you can refuse service to anyone, if they are acting up bad enough, corporate won't like it and you could possibly get "retrained" or fired but you could do it.
