Stafford baby critically injured in apparent shaken baby case.

A 15-month-old Stafford boy is in critical condition and his mother and her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with alleged abuse, police said.

According to Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy and court records, police got a 911 call at 10:43 p.m. Sunday regarding a child in distress on Cruiser Drive in Aquia Harbour.

Rescue workers met the child's mother at a park in the subdivision and took the child to Stafford Hospital Center. The child was soon flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

An affidavit for a search warrant filed in Stafford Circuit Court states that Deputy Burton Collins went to Stafford Hospital and was told by officials there that the child had been abused and was possibly a victim of shaken-baby syndrome.

Another affidavit states that the mother and the boyfriend both told police that a 3-year-old sibling caused the injuries or the injuries might have occurred when the baby fell out of his crib.

Medical professionals told police that the injuries were far too severe to have been caused by a small child or a fall from a crib, the affidavit states.

Carrie Woods, 23, and William Burd III, 35, who live together on Cruiser Drive, were both charged with felony child abuse and felony child neglect.

They are in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

Detective Thomas Leonard's investigation has revealed that the critically injured boy was recently taken to the hospital to be treated for a broken arm, an affidavit states.

Medical personnel were told that the child was just learning to walk and tripped over a blanket.

Leonard also learned that Burd, a registered sex offender, was seen putting makeup on the child in an apparent attempt to cover up bruises while he was being treated for the arm injury.

The affidavit states that after the child's latest injuries Woods told her father that she and Burd were going to leave town "before they were arrested," but were waiting to make sure the child "was not going to die first."

On Tuesday, court records state, Burd was arrested by Aquia Harbour police on charges of driving on a revoked license and possession of illegal drugs. Woods was following him in a van.

Kennedy said the child was still in critical condition last night.

The mom sounds like another dumb bitch!! Okay first off why are you living with a RSO? Second it sounds like the kid was injured before and you just let it continue on? Any motherfucker put makeup on my baby to hide bruises would be sporting a pair of handcuffs by the end of the day!! These two make me sick and I hope they never are allowed around any children again!!
 
Ya know, the more of these stories I read about babies being abused by moms current penis, the more convinced I am that there needs to be programs instituted around the world that provide young, single mothers the following things:
1) A vibrator or dildo of her choice.
2) A laptop that has been donated by some generous soul who maybe recently bought a new one.
3) At least a 5 year membership to one of those criminal background check websites.

Then they would have the option of taking care of business themselves, or at least CHECKING to see what kind of penis they are bringing into their homes around the babies.

So tired of mother's that would rather bust a nut than protect their innocent baby, who I might add didn't even ask to be brought into this world in the first place. After my dad passed away, my mom didn't go out and bring just any man in around us kids, nor did she feel the need to move any men into the home with us. Why? Because she knew she didn't have to have a man around to raise us. Instead, she waited until she knew who she was seeing before we got to meet her gentleman callers and in doing so met a wonderful man that we were glad to call Dad after we'd gotten to know and love him. 22 years later they are still together and none of us could ever have asked for a better father figure (our own dad would have approved and been glad we had such a great guy to raise us), or a better grandfather for the kids in our family.
 
How the fuck are you going to blame abuse on a 3 yr old? Nor only that but they were going to abandon the lil one after the made sure it "didn't die". Fucking asshats. As far as the RSO though, that doesn't mean anything to me. You can be a RSO just for pee'ing in a park...doesn't mean you actually commited a sex crime against someone.
 
At least this boy is in a great hospital. I had both my kids there and had a friend who ended up in their ICU with serious brain trauma (random brain infection, long story). They were amazing. IF this boy can be saved, this is the hospital that can do it.
 
I may be a wicked bitch at times, and I know I am not perfect. But one thing that I am 150% sure of is that I would NEVER sacrifice my children's safety for any punk on this earth with a penis. Matter of fact, there is absolutely nothing more dear and precious than my own 4 kids. I would lay down and die for anyone of them, and would fight to the end for them as well. So when these stories come up, and they do more often than we care to read, I can't make sense of it.

How do you go from carrying a child, a life inside you, nurturing it, feeling it move inside you,allowing it to grow and form a human being with little fingers and toes, to beating it or allowing some sick fuck to destroy your greatest creation, your child. I can live a thousand years and will never get the answers to my questions. I just wish these people could somehow be detected before they procreate or get with someone that has. So once we know John Doe is a fuck up, there goes the bullet straight to their forehead.

I recall all of my kids birth and how I was just enamored with them, and the feeling just intensified more as time progressed. I would even fight with my hubby if I didn't agree with his form of discipline.....I will never get this, and for that I am grateful

A mother and her former live-in boyfriend were ordered yesterday to serve 10 years in prison for allowing and/or inflicting multiple serious injuries on her 15-month-old son.

Carrie Michelle Woods, 24, and William Edward Burd III, 36, were each sentenced in Stafford Circuit Court to a total of 60 years in prison with all but 10 suspended.

Woods and Burd were nearing the end of a three-day jury trial Aug. 1 when both decided to plead guilty to 10 charges apiece rather than let a jury determine their fates.

Each was convicted of three counts of child abuse, three counts of child neglect, two counts of child cruelty and two counts of malicious wounding.

Prosecutor Eric Olsen put on several witnesses who had noticed injuries on the child prior to the night he was rushed to the hospital.

A week earlier, a doctor in Caroline was so concerned about the child during a routine checkup that he contacted Child Protective Services.

Another time, relatives said, they urged Woods to take the child to a doctor after he appeared to have a broken arm at a family gathering.

Ryan has since recovered. He and his siblings are now living with a relative.

Umm....first of all this is MY MOTHER that yall are talking shit about so yall can calm down cause thats not the full story....so let me enlighten you...okay so as far as them trying to "skip" town but making sure he wasnt gonna die first ...that didnt even happen we were at the house in my room that we shared with my other siblings including the baby and he stopped breathing and turned blue...my mom being the wonderful mother that she is panicked and called 911 and met the ambulance at the park so that my baby brother would get medical attention as fast as possible....and about him breaking his arm that had nothing to do with either of them ...the baby had his blanket over his face at our grandmas and he tripped over the blanket and broke his arm and i was there so how are people gonna try to tell everyone that it was a lie....and yall saying that she blamed it on my at the time 3 yr old brother also isnt true yes some of the injuries did come from my other brother from where they were playing like brothers do....my mom also didnt know the whole story about him being a registered sex offender ....i was always with my mom even when she went to work my siblings and i went if we werent with our grandma so i wish people would stop making accusations about shit when yall doint even know the fucking story....buh an update regarding my brother...he is now 6 years old and is as healthy as ever....and as for my mom she has 3 years left...thank you buh yall needa hop out of other peoples business...@robotsocks @Bohring @Hellsbells @AngelFire @LestYeBeJudged @Obsolete @KyFyre @Mommyof2

Understand that people here were outraged about your brother being hurt. Anyways, she's doing her time, and I wish you and your siblings the best!

Please do not have children you will allow them to be abused as your mother allowed your sibling to be abused. Focus on learning to speak proper English, get on birth control and seek therapy to address your childhood trauma.

First of all Ms. Heflin I highly suggest you stop defending your low life piece of shit mother. If she did nothing to this child why would she take a plea and not fight to prove her innocence? Oh wait she wasn’t innocent. I wouldn’t listen to a child whose parents have spent more time in jail than actually with their children. I AM THIS CHILDS AUNT and I will say one thing and one thing only. That wonderful baby has grown into an amazing young man and he is loved by more people than he will ever realize. I told myself I would say nothing but after reading some of these comments I had to say something. As for Carrie and her family they will never have anything to do with him again and her aunt the person that Ms. Heflin has lived with for most of her life is lucky she isn’t in jail right along with them for breaking a court order barring that POS from having any contact with him. I didn’t think she would. But I can’t stand people defending her and what she did. I’m sorry but no parent would take their child from a scene if they weren’t breathing and meet the ambulance at a park. She left so that evidence could be thrown away and cleaned up.
