A 15-year-old Milwaukee girl died after a shooting Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

A 23-year-old Milwaukee man has been arrested in connection with the incident, Milwaukee Police said.

The shooting was the result of an argument, police said.

The victim was identified Monday by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office as Gabrielle L. Landry.

The victim was taken to Children's Wisconsin with life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m. at the hospital, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office tweeted Sunday night.

In January, at least five minors were victimized by gun violence in Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee Homicide Review Commission. In 2021, during a record year of homicides and nonfatal shootings in Milwaukee, 13% of victims were minors.

The 15-year-old girl who died from a shooting Sunday was struck by a bullet that wasn’t intended for anyone during an argument between several adults.

A charge of first-degree reckless homicide was filed Friday against Marcellus J. Duckworth, 23, of Milwaukee, who told police he tried shooting out the tire of a vehicle carrying the victim and two other women who were driving away after arguing with him, according to a criminal complaint.

The bullet ended up striking Gabrielle L. Landry of Milwaukee in the head.
According to the criminal complaint:

Duckworth’s girlfriend told police the conflict began Sunday when she made a post on Instagram about selling shoes. She then received a direct message from another woman claiming she previously had sexual relations with Duckworth and was going to come over to his house, on the 5700 block of North 65th Street, to fight.

The woman showed up with two other girls – Landry and a 17-year-old. Duckworth met them outside while armed.

Believing that a car parked outside the home belonged to Duckworth’s girlfriend, the three opened the trunk of their car and began throwing canned goods at it. At one point, the woman tried pepper-spraying Duckworth’s girlfriend.

Duckworth then went inside the home and shut the door, but the woman started banging on the door and eventually broke a glass window.

The 17-year-old girl told police Landry spent most of the time seated in the car while filming the argument on her phone.

The three then drove off in a car while Duckworth and his girlfriend pursued on foot. The girlfriend told police the car then turned around and came back toward them. As it passed, Duckworth raised a gun and fired one shot, hitting Landry.
