An Evansville woman was arrested after police said she didn't report alleged child abuse because she was high on methamphetamine.
Gena Bergonia, 34, is facing charges of child neglect and meth possession.
According to Evansville Police Department arrest records, the child told Bergonia about the alleged abuse two weeks prior.
Bergonia reportedly said she couldn't remember if she was told then because she had taken meth.
She said she remembered learning about the alleged abuse only several days before but didn't alert authorities at that time either.
She said she used meth again during that time frame and reported what allegedly happened once she was no longer under the influence.
Police said Bergonia admitted that her meth use prevented her from reporting the abuse in a timely manner.
