"An Anderson man has been charged with murder and two counts of feticide after police say he shot his pregnant girlfriend in the back of the head last week, leading to the deaths of her unborn twins.
Skye'lar De'andre White, 29, is being held without bond in the Madison County Jail, online records indicate.
The woman, 29-year-old Alexis Wasson, remains at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital. She has irreversibly lost all brain function, according to a probable-cause affidavit in the case.
One twin died on Aug. 7 and the other died Aug. 8, according to court documents.
White's mother told police she was awakened around 3 a.m. Aug. 2 when White banged on her front door, according to court documents. White told her Wasson had been shot.
"It was an accident!" White told his mother, according to the documents.
A second, unidentified witness told police White said "the gun went off and grazed her head." The second witness then asked White if Wasson was hurt, and White answered: "No. She was just grazed. The gun was in the bed," according to court documents.
Wasson was in the car in White's mother's driveway. White's mother drove her to the hospital, while White and the unidentified witness stayed at the home.
Once his mother and Wasson left for the hospital, White fled on foot, the unidentified witness told police.
Officers located White later in the afternoon, according to court documents. He was asked to speak with detectives, but requested to speak to his lawyer first. He was then arrested and taken to the Madison County Jail."
