A Dover man has been charged with abusing his girlfriend's child, causing injuries that killed the 1-year-old boy, according to court documents.
Edjuan Blackshear was arrested Thursday after his girlfriend's 1-year-old son, Miles Duncan, succumbed to injuries that included multiple broken ribs, a collapsed lung and subdural head bleeding, according to documents obtained by The News Journal.
Blackshear told police he was the only person with the children, according to court documents. He said the boys were in a playpen in the living room, but he had to remove Miles because one child was hitting him over the head with a toy.
When he picked up the infant, Blackshear dropped him onto the ground while trying to lift him up by one arm, court documents said.
Miles was initially sent to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover on Wednesday night, where he went into cardiac arrest. He was airlifted to Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Rockland, and died early Thursday morning.
Duncan's mother told police she had changed Duncan numerous times and bathed him in the few days prior but did not notice any injuries or bruises.
