"Jessica Dawn Garcia, 42, is facing four counts of attempted vehicular homicide and four counts of child abuse, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, officers were called to the Colorado National Monument in Mesa County after they received a 911 call on March 30 around 5 p.m. from a 13-year-old boy who had jumped from a moving vehicle, claiming that Garcia “was trying to kill him.” He also told emergency dispatchers that there were other kids in the car, as well as two dogs, and she planned to drive off the cliff.
Police were able to track down Garcia’s white Ford Fiesta, which was at a stop, facing the wrong direction on the right-hand shoulder of the road at the west entrance of the monument. The sedan was located about 10 feet from the edge of the cliff and its “wheels were facing in the direction of the cliff.”
Officers saw “tire marks that suggested the car slammed on the brakes and slid forward, very close to the descent,” the affidavit reads.
Once there, an officer noted that “the first thing the woman said, unprompted, was ‘I wasn’t going to push them off,’” according to the affidavit.
At the scene, one of the children told an officer that Garcia “thought the earth was ‘corrupt’ and she wanted to make sure they could all ‘go home,’” the affidavit states.
When the child asked Garcia to clarify, she allegedly responded “with Jesus.”"
