"The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office has requested for two murder charges to be added on top of the eight counts of child abuse that Aaron Weddles and Princess Canez-Walker already face.

The couple and their five kids disappeared in January of last year and were later found. But to this day, Setina and her twin brother Ren are still missing. The two counts of murder allege Weddles and Canez Walker are liable for the death of their two children. The DA said neither of the children’s’ bodies has been found."

Pocketknives, a machete, an ax, and drugs: These are some of the items Stockton police found in the car where the Weddles family was living when their 10-month-old twins disappeared in January 2018.

Aaron Weddles, 42, and Princess Dara Canez Walker, 33, were accused of neglecting and abusing their children, and killing the missing twins, The Bee previously reported.

The couple pleaded guilty to eight counts of child endangerment, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release. While the twins are still missing, the office dismissed charges of murder due to insufficient evidence. The couple was sentenced to 15 years and four months in state prison, according to the release.

The family — consisting of the couple and eight children — was reported missing on Jan. 4, 2018, The Bee reported.

Weddles and Walker were found five days later in the weapon- and drug-filled vehicle with their 4-year-old daughter and their eldest twins, then just 2 years old. Their youngest — a girl, Setina Weddles, and a boy, Ren Weddles — could not be found.

Local law enforcement agencies said they continue to plead for information from the public to help locate the children.

The office may be able to prosecute Weddles and Walker in absence of the twins’ bodies if they can prove they were deliberately killed.

“The loss of these two precious children is a tragedy and should have never happened. As a community we are each responsible to stand up and protect our children, together we can ensure their safety by reporting incidents and giving a voice to those who need us most,” the release said.

Setina Princess Weddles was an infant who went missing in 2016. She was not reported missing until 2018.

Case

Setina and her twin brother Ren were born on April 7, 2016 to Aaron Weddles and Princess Canez-Walker. When they were born, a nurse alerted CPS that their parents were not fit to care for them, but no further action was taken.

On January 4, 2018, the twins and their parents were reported missing, as well as the couple's three older children. Several days later, the parents and older children were found living in a van in 'deplorable' condition, but there was no sign of the twins. Weddles and Canez-Walker were both arrested on a variety of charges, including child endangerment.

When asked about the location of the twins, Weddles said "do your jobs, that’s what you’re getting paid for," and Canez-Walker said they may have been kidnapped but provided no further information. However, Weddles later said that the last time he saw Ren was in May 13, 2016, when he was five weeks old. That night Weddles was critically injured during a shootout, having been shot in the neck. He claimed that he may have accidentally killed Ren during the shootout, or he was killed by the same man who shot him. Canez-Walker allegedly told the same story to one of her cousins, and she also said that she put Ren's body in a freezer after he died. When questioned, she retracted her statement, saying Ren was in the hospital. The last confirmed sighting of Setina was a few months later, and she is believed to have gone missing in August 2016. The twins' parents have been charged with wilful injury to a child with possible injury or death in Ren's case.

That poor little girl looks terrified in that picture. And they never found Ren, either.
