Authorities say a Seymour woman fatally shot her 15-year-old grandson before calling 911 to report what happened and killing herself.
Police in Seymour found 68-year-old Wanda Huber dead Monday evening at the home she shared with her grandson Simon Huber.
Seymour Police Detective Sgt. C.J. Foster
told WAVE-TV the police department received a call from Wanda Huber just before 5 p.m. Monday. She told a dispatcher there had been an accident at her home on Walnut Street.
“She pauses for a brief moment and then said, 'No, there had been a murder there,” Foster said. “That was the last communication we had with her.”
Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott said Wanda Huber gave dispatchers her name and made sure they had her address before hanging up.
When officers arrived, they found Huber dead inside her home with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They found Simon shot, but still alive. He was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he died Monday night.
Foster said it is still not known why Huber would have shot her grandson, then herself.
“We still have some people to speak with and do some follow up interviews,” Foster said. “There has been some talk of some medical issues so we will definitely look into that.”
Foster said investigators will look into both mental and physical health, but say neither Simon nor his grandmother have had involvement with police before and officers had never been called to the home in the past.
