A Florida woman faces felony charges after being accused of shoving her emaciated dog into the trunk of a hot car.

Sara Ann Perry was arrested on a charge of felony animal abuse after a video surfaced showing the whole incident. A young girl stood by while the woman put the dog into the trunk.

The incident happened Wednesday in the parking lot of Brevard County Humane Society. Witnesses said they saw Perry take the dog out of the trunk, walk toward the building and then return to the car and shove the dog back inside the trunk.

According to officials at the humane society, Perry tried to surrender the dog or have it euthanized. The shelter, however, does not euthanize dogs, and it was full. The staff gave Perry alternative locations to take the dog before she went back to the vehicle.

It was over 85 degrees outside that afternoon.

The Brevard Sheriff’s Office seized the dog.

Officials say the dog was malnourished and in poor health. It’s being treated at Brevard County Animal Services.

I hate the humane society.

I know that's off the wall. But I have seen their greed in full action.

What ya wanna bet if this dog was some cutie patutie like a Yorkie puppy, they would not have turned her away.

Because the dog was old and unadoptable, they didn't want it.

And they say they are A NO KILL SHELTER. Okay, so they don't actually put animals to sleep in their facility.
But what do is accept an animal with a large donation knowing full well it doesn't meet their adoptable standards, then they immediately call the county shelter that does euthanize and send the animal there to be immediately put down.

All the while the owner is feeling okay about (for what ever reason) leaving the animal... Because after all, they are s no kill shelter and they donated good money.

And P fucking S: they keep the donation.

A Cocoa woman has entered a plea for one count of animal cruelty after video surfaced of her placing her malnourished dog in the trunk of her car in August.
Sara Perry, 29, entered a plea to one count of Cruelty to Animals, Death, Pain or Suffering and was sentenced to 36 months of supervised probation, 100 hours of community service, along with court costs and other fees totaling $1,737.

During her probation Perry will not be allowed to own or care for animals, along with all of the standard conditions of probation.

In addition, her community service cannot be performed at any facility that cares for children or animals.

Perry was arrested August 22, 2019, after attempting to surrender a malnourished dog to a Humane Society animal shelter. The dog was refused by the shelter citing they were full. When Perry left the facility, she was recorded on video placing the dog into the trunk of her passenger car.

The State Attorney’s Office released a statement regarding the case.

“Our attorneys work hard to aggressively prosecute these cases, but that process also includes a careful consideration of all the evidence, including information that may mitigate the initial reported actions of a defendant,” said the office of the 18th Judicial Circuit in a statement.

“In this instance, it was learned that Perry is a single mother attempting to care for her young children and a dog, after her husband moved out of the family home.

In a statement to law enforcement, Perry said she didn’t have enough money to feed both her children and provide the proper care for the dog. It was the reason she went to the shelter for help.”

As for the issue surrounding the placement of the dog in the car’s truck, Perry stated that the trunk was open to the passenger compartment via a fold down portion of the rear seat, allowing the dog to keep its head in the passenger area and AC to reach the trunk.

When seeking any resolution, we strive to provide accountability and corrective sanctions for the offender, while setting conditions that seek to protect the community and prevent any future occurrence. Perry has no prior criminal history and is solely responsible for the care of her minor children. We do not believe that seeking incarceration, and removing Perry from the home, was warranted or appropriate in this instance.

While the malnutrition of the dog was a terrible occurrence, fortunately with the proper care and attention provided by Brevard County Animal Services, there’s been a full recovery. Even so, Perry has accepted responsibility for her actions with this plea and sanctions. Should Perry fail to comply with any of the conditions of her probation, she would face additional penalties or sanctions.”
