Police have arrested the parents of a 2-year-old boy found dead in a crib at a south Wichita home late Thursday night.
The toddler’s mother, 22-year-old Brandi Kai Marchant, and his father, 28-year-old Patrick R. Javonovich, were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on Friday morning, according to jail records. They were being held on suspicion of committing felony murder, Wichita police spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said.
Davidson said police went to a home around 11:30 p.m. Thursday after someone called 911 to report a domestic dispute between Marchant and Javonovich. Officers found the pair walking back to the address when they arrived. The 2-year-old boy and his 4-month-old brother were alone inside of the home. An officer who went inside to check on the children found the toddler dead in a crib, Davidson said.
The baby was “found to be in need of medical attention,” Davidson said.
Davidson refused to be specific about what kind of medical attention the baby needed but said the infant was immediately taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment.
“The child does remain hospitalized at this time and will be taken into police protective custody once released from the hospital,” Davidson said Friday.
Marchant and Javonovich are the 2-year-old’s biological parents but were not married. Marchant is the 4-month-old’s mother but Javonovich is not his father, Davidson said.
Davidson said sometime before police were called Marchant and Javonovich got into a verbal fight and left the home without the boys. It’s not yet clear how long they were gone and how long the children were alone, he said.
Davidson didn’t say whether the toddler had visible injuries on his body. An autopsy will determine his exact cause of death.
