An 18-year-old student accused of stabbing his classmate to death Wednesday at a New York City school has been charged with a series of offenses, including murder.

The attack at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation in the Bronx left 15-year-old Matthew McCree dead and Ariane LaBoy, 16, in critical condition, police told the New York Post.

Student Abel Cedeno, 18, was charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Cedeno snapped after repeatedly being bullied over his personality, according to a friend and former student.

“They were harassing him and that’s when he did what he did,” a friend who would only identify herself as Tanaisha B. told the newspaper.

Tanaisha said she had graduated from the school in June and knew Cedeno "really well."

Police said that McCree tossed his pencil at Cedeno when he got up to leave the room, the New York Daily News reported. The pencil missed Cedeno, but it set off the confrontation between the two.

“We believe this argument has been going on for about two weeks into the school year and it escalated,” said NYPD Police Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce. “A fight erupted today after some back and forth.”

“I heard he was being harassed,” Tanaisha said. “He’s not aggressive. Everybody loves Abel. He’s not a bad kid.”

What are we (as a society) going to do about bullying? I hate a bully, but the only thing that stops a bully is standing up to him/her. But that doesn't solve the problem. Especially not when you kill them, you only make your life more of a living hell.

A bully can make you want to kill, I know, I've been there, I was absolutely tormented by this girl in 7th grade, I ended up slapping the flying shit out of her and told her to leave me alone. After she got up crying, wanting to go to the principal, HR teacher wouldn't let her, she never bothered me again. I have never raised my hand to anyone else, never had to.

But kids these days seem a lot more thin skinned and on top of that not allowed to fight at all, not even verbally, so they never get this aggression out of their systems. The bullies absolutely know that no one will stop them, and the victims know it too.

I don't want people to be hurt but sometimes I think a good old fashioned fight might help a few of them any way. Especially the bullies that follow their victim from year to year, if they'd been allowed to fight it when younger and less likely to hurt each other, maybe it could have been stopped.

Some kind of structured recreation, boxing, SOMETHING to tire these kids out. I don't know I'm rambling, but I feel so bad for the kid here, he knew he would never be rid of this bully if he didn't do something awful.:(

Sadly, I do not think the kids are built like we use to be. Maybe they are too sensitive or do not understand that being bullied can make you stronger and more focused on your future. I also think with the new technology of posting everything on line it is harder to distance yourself from that bullying. Honestly this is a tragedy for everyone involved. I am angry that one young man lost his life, but also saddened that Mr. Cedeno did not have the emotional tools to walk away and has forever ruined his life.

I don't think this kid was the boxing type unfortunately. He looks quite feminine and that is likely why he was bullied (if he was being bullied). I don't have too much sympathy there are likely lots of things he could have done before stabbing someone to death. I mean even if he had chose to beat the kid with a bat or something it would probably have ended a lot better than it has. If he got bullied in school he will be eaten alive in a detention centre.
[doublepost=1506674746,1506674506][/doublepost]I do feel sorry for kids being bullied but this was a shit way of fixing it. Getting locked up with hundreds more bullies.

The victim looks 22 and angry as hell.
Cap'n Stabby Pants was likely getting picked on over that huge honker.
I am sure in jail he will never be picked on or made fun of...yeah...right.

All he needed to do was slap the ever lovin' snot out of the bully.
A nice series of rapid fire vicious as hell bitch slaps work wonders.
His life is fucked from here on out.

The family of the deceased teen has already hired a lawyer and is looking into suing the Board Of Education. The mother as well as the step-father denied that their child was a bully but witnesses stated that the two instigated the fight.

It is tragic that all three young men are now either dead, injured or facing incarceration but it should not be a pay day for the parents of the child if in fact he was bullying the young man.

The lawyer for a bullied Bronx teen charged with fatally slashing his classmatewent on the attack Wednesday, portraying the victim as the aggressor.

“He was pummeled before he took any action,” attorney Robert Feldman said of his client, Abdel Cedeno, 18.

“They ran up to him, thinking that Abel Cedeno was too much of a sissy, too effeminate, too much of an openly-gay kid to do anything.

“Well, guess what?” Feldman added. “They were wrong.”

Authorities have released new video allegedly showing the moments before a 'bullied' gay teen stabbed to death his 15-year-old classmate at a school in the Bronx.

The attorney for Abel Cedeno, who is accused of fatally stabbing his classmate, Matthew McCree, 15, and seriously wounding, Ariane Laboy, 16, in the Bronx, released the video last week.

In the grainy cellphone video recorded by another student, Cedeno's attorney, Robert Feldman, says that Cedeno is wearing a pink shirt and McCree is wearing a white shirt.

Feldman believes the video will prove his client acted in self-defense.

'You will see clearly. Crystal clear. Beyond any doubt that our client, Abel Cedeno who is wearing a pink shirt is being accosted, assaulted and beset by Mr McCree whose wearing a white shirt,' Feldman told PIX 11.

The nine-second video shows a group of students screaming as the attack breaks out in a history class at Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation in the Bronx.

An adult, believed to be the teacher, is seen attempting to break up the altercation along with a few students.

Feldman said the video shows Cedeno trying to fight off at least two other students before the attack.

'If my client did not do this he would have been severely, severely beat up again or maybe even killed,' Feldman told the station.

Feldman was referring to Cedeno's claims that he was persistently bullied at the school ahead of the September 2017 incident.

However, the video doesn't show how the incident ended, with McCree being allegedly stabbed by Cedeno.

Sanford Rubenstein, who is representing the estate of McCree, told PIX11: 'A grand jury indicted Abel Cedeno for manslaughter based on evidence which most likely included this video in its entirety.'

'No conclusions can be drawn showing a part of it out of context,' Rubenstein added.

In December, Cedeno spoke out about the attacks and said they came after years of bullying about his sexuality and a suicide attempt the day before.

Cedeno told ABC New York at the time that he initially tried to walk away on September 27, 2017, when his classmates wouldn't stop bullying him.

'I was near the entrance to the classroom,' he told the outlet. 'And they continued to throw stuff. The class was very rowdy and loudness and everything.

'I just snapped. I started screaming and screaming.'

The 18-year-old was released on a bail of $250,000 in November and was charged with manslaughter.

McCree died from the stab wounds, but Laboy pulled through after being in a coma for more than one day. Cedeno pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Cedeno told ABC that he's been bullied since middle school when he first started struggling with being gay.

He said classmates called him 'derogatory' words and mocked his flamboyant nature - saying he must be gay because he was 'growing out his hair and has a high-pitched voice'.

Cedeno also said that the years of bullying lead him to attempt to commit suicide the day before the attack.

'I tried to overdose on some pills, but the next day I woke up,' he explained.

'I didn't want to be surrounded by those kids. Whenever I went to school, I felt trapped. Like i was put in a cage with a whole bunch of animals.'

His family also said at the time that they plan to sue the New York City public school system, saying more could have been done to prevent the alleged bullying and incident.

Cedeno explained that his mother complained to the administration earlier in the year and even attempted to have him transferred to a different school, but said nobody would listen to her.

This isn't the first time that Cedeno has blamed years of bullying for the fatal attack.

Cedeno gave a press conference at Rikers Island on September 29, where was being held after being arrested for stabbing McCree, to explain he'd been pushed to breaking point by his tormentors at school.

The teen explained that he's been bullied since sixth grade because he is gay, and that 'didn't mean to kill him'.

'They bully me because I'm different. I'm not like other boys,' Cedano said, according to the New York Post. 'I guess I just snapped, I didn't mean to kill him.'

Cedeno is currently being homeschooled and his next court appearance is March 6.

A Bronx teen charged with fatally stabbing a high school classmate and slashing another in what he said was an act of self-defense is suing the city’s Department of Education, saying school officials failed to protect him from fellow students who tormented him for years with homophobic slurs and physical attacks.

In September 2017, then-12th-grader Abel Cedeno lashed out with a switchblade against fellow students at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation, Matthew McCree and Ariane LaBoy, who Cedeno said were physically assaulting him in a classroom with two teachers present, according to authorities.

McCree died in the altercation and LaBoy was seriously injured. Cedeno was charged with manslaughter and assault and remains free on bail.

Before his release, Cedeno had a three-month stretch on Rikers Island and Tom Shanahan, his lawyer in the civil suit, said his client felt safer jailed among accused violent felons than he did in the hands of the Education Department.

“We sincerely hope that the attention given to Abel’s situation will lead to greater protection for other children who are facing unrelenting bullying in what is supposed to be a safe place,” the attorney said.

Cedeno alleges in his suit that the fatal encounter was the culmination of six years of abuse by fellow students, to which he says teachers and staff often turned a blind eye.

A judge found Abel Cedeno guilty on all counts Monday afternoon in the 2017 Bronx classroom stabbing death of a classmate.

Cedeno, 19, was tried in front of a judge instead of a jury. He was charged with manslaughter, assault and weapon possession. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark called the stabbing a "true tragedy."

“In a matter of seconds, the defendant took out his knife and stabbed two students in front of a crowded classroom, killing 15-year-old Matthew McCree and critically wounding Ariane Laboy, then 16," Clark said. "The incident has forever traumatized the young students and school faculty who watched in horror the violence that unfolded that morning."

Cedeno's defense team argued what he did inside the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation in September of 2017 was self defense. His attorneys said he brought the knife he used in the incident for protection after being bullied.

But according to trial testimony, McCree and Laboy didn't know or socialize with Cedeno before the Sept. 27 incident.

Cedeno faces 5 to 25 years behind bars when he's sentenced on Sept. 10.

I hope he gets the lighter end of the sentencing range. I'm not sorry a bully is dead.

The Bronx teen who fatally stabbed his classmate during third-period history and seriously wounded another was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Tuesday.

Abel Cedeno, 20, sat with a stunned expression as Bronx Supreme Court Justice Michael Gross handed down the sentence for the 2017 killing of 15-year-old Matthew McCree and the near-fatal assault on 16-year-old Ariane Laboy.

The judge declined to offer Cedeno youthful offender status, citing the seriousness of the charges.

“I didn’t get my 50 years, but I’ll take 14,” the slain teen’s mother, Louna Dennis, told reporters. “Had he gotten youthful offender, it would have been maybe one-and-a-half. I’ll take the 14.”

Family members of McCree and Laboy addressed Cedeno for the first time at the sentencing, describing in heartrending detail the pain he had caused them.

Prior to his sentencing, Cedeno said that he felt “horrible” for the pain he caused both families, a reality he thinks about “every day.”

“I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life,” he said. “I regret it so much, and I wish that I could take it all back.”
