Chicago police are investigating after a video surfaced of a 15-year-old girl with disabilities being beaten by a group of teens.

The video began circulating on social media Monday, but Chicago police said the girl was missing for five days before police were contacted.

Police said the girl may have also been sexually assaulted while she was missing.

The girl was located Tuesday night and taken to the hospital where she was treated and released. She went home with her father.

Community activist Stringer Harris, who spoke with the media before a police news conference Wednesday, identified the people who attacked the girl as six teens, five girls and one boy, between the ages of 15 and 18, who were her so-called friends. Police did not confirm this information.

Harris also said the girl suffers from a mental illness.

There were reports that some of the attackers have been receiving death threats online. At least one of them has posted an apology to the girl.

The teen girl who was seen being attacked in a viral video posted to social media will remain in the custody of the Department of Child and Family Services, FOX 32 has learned Friday.

The judge at Friday's custody hearing rule the 15-year-old will remain in DCFS custody at least until Monday when the next court date is scheduled.

There may be more charges and additional suspects in the case.

Mervin Jenkins, the father of the 15-year-old, went to court Friday to try to regain custody of his daughter, who has special needs.

Jenkins lost the battle, at least for now, due to prior concerns about school attendance and previous contact with DCFS.

Amateur video released today allegedly shows the victim trying to get help from police after activists say the group of suspects wanted the victim to perform a sex act on a man, then upset that she tried to get help, the group of girls allegedly attacking the 15-year-old and beat her up.

All four girls have been charged in the case.

A fourth teen appeared in court in connection to the beating.

The 15-year-old girl who turned her self in with the help of her mother and was charged with aggravated battery and was released.

The other girls involved in the attack are 13, 14 and 15. All of whom the victim thought were her friends.

They are facing charges of felony assault and mob action.
