There could be a big break in the search for missing teen Jessica Cain. Crews have discovered bones in a field where a search is underway.

"There's enough there to know that it's a body," said HPD Detective Richard Martinez. "So, they still have to keep digging and meticulously get every bone that we can to reconstruct the body."

The discovery was made at about 2:30pm Friday at the site on East Orem. At this point, it's not clear if the bones found are that of the missing teen. Search teams have collected the bones and placed them into evidence bags.

This is huge news around here, Jessica Cain is one of dozens murdered and missing children and women connected with the infamous Texas Killing Fields. Laura Miller is a Texas Killing Fields victim, her father is Tim Miller, of Texas Equusearch.

This asshole William Reece was caught because one of his victims escaped and helped put him behind bars in Texas. Now he is negotiating with police because he said he knows where Jessica Cain is buried. Jessica Cain is a very high profile murder victim around here. Wow, could William Reece be responsible for some of the other Killing Fields victims? I would say YES!

The suspect in Jessica Cain's disappearance hopes by helping officers find her remains he'll get to stay in Texas, according to sources close to the case.

William Reece, 56, has been on a plot of land on East Orem... as they dig for her remains. He had been in a Huntsville prison since 1998, convicted of aggravated kidnapping. Houston author Kathryn Casey spent time with Reece as research for her book, "Deliver Us," a true crime book about the infamous killing fields.

Casey visited Reece at the Ellis Unit and also exchanged letters with him. She says Reece was convicted of sex assault/kidnapping crimes in both Oklahoma and Texas was charming and shrewd. He moved to the Houston area after his release from an Oklahoma prison in 1996, and within months girls started disappearing. He was convicted in the May 1997 kidnapping and assault of a 19-year-old woman in Webster. He has always been a suspect in the murder of 12-year-old Laura Smither and one of a few suspects in Jessica Cain's disappearance.

Casey says Reece always denied being a murderer, but last September he was charged with the 1997 murder of Tiffany Johnston, 19 (DNA evidence connected him 20 years later), in Oklahoma -- a state, sources say, he doesn't wish to return to.

(From the book "Deliver Us" by Kathryn Casey.) William Reece was working a construction job down the street from where Laura lived. Laura went jogging and William went home from his job within the same time frame. He would have driven down the same street Laura was jogging. Laura went missing on April 3rd of '98, her body was discovered 17 days later on April 20th.

Tiffany Johnson. murdered in '97. Recently linked to William Reece by DNA and he has been charged with her murder.

Smither and Johnson look enough alike to be sisters. Gives me shivers.

My gosh, right? Their resemblance is startling. I do believe Reece is a murderer and predator of convenience, but he definitely seems to have a type.

Crews have been digging in the field for more than three weeks after convict William Reece tipped them off that Cain’s remains could be found in the field. Reece, who’s serving time for aggravated kidnapping, has been linked to at least five murders or kidnappings—all from 1997.

48 hours The Killing Fields

Thanks for the 48 hours link, it's chilling and frightening. Such a sad reminder of the grief and devastation left behind for the long-suffering families. The major motion picture that was released about the killings "The Texas Killing Fields" stars Sam Worthington, they talk about it in the 48 hours show.

Long suffering indeed. Fuck, I graduated high school in 1997. So I was about this girl's age when she died.

I was just hit with this rush of realization of just how much life I've lived since 1997. Almost 2 decades this girl's family has been wondering and waiting. Grieving, and yet maybe holding fast to just a tiny flame of hope as well. Carefully tended over all these long years... finally extinguished now. :(

That was going to be my comment almost to the word. Even Cain bears a passing resemblance. Johnson looks almost like an intermediate.

According to law enforcement sources, police will begin digging at another site in the Houston area next week. Investigators think another victim of Reece could be buried there.

DAMN, Reece is telling where the bodies are buried. At least those long-suffering parents and relatives will finally have the small comfort of being able to bury their loved ones. Not knowing where they are all these years has to be a living hell.

I must admit to being curious as hell as to who he is going to give up next. There are so many missing girls. Wow, just wow.

@anniquity Curious about why you disagree with this post?
Small cellphone screen. Sorry! :)

This is Sandra Sapaugh, the one who got away, testifying at Reece's trial. She threw herself out of his vehicle on a freaking freeway. Brave girl. Reece's MO usually seems to be fucking with their vehicle in some way and then offering to help. Jessica Cain's car was found on a side road off Interstate 45.

He slit the tire of Sandra's car and then offered to help her when she pulled over. She said he was staring at her earlier at a convenience store.

Seeing a resemblance to the other girls pictured here, yup.

Talk about having a type - this Reece bastard was more specific in his selection process than David fucking Berkowitz.

Don't you mean Harvey the dog had a preferred selection process? ;)

One thing I'm curious about and perhaps someone with a legal background can explain this to me. Texas and Oklahoma are both death penalty states. Could he have made a deal that if he gives up the bodies here in Texas the death penalty is off the table and he cannot be sent back to Oklahoma to face murder charges for Tiffany, where he could possibly receive the death penalty?

And this is interesting (to me anyway), in the article linked below it says Reece told investigators he knew Tiffany Johnson's family. So she would be another victim he pre-selected.

I'd think Oklahoma would have to agree to that. I don't think a state can refuse to extradite. I base that thought on absolutely nothing concrete whatsoever cuz i have actually never read or heard otherwise, it just seems bizarre to me that it could happen.

No doubt Reece has made some kind of deal to keep the death penalty off the table if he gives up where the bodies are buried. Investigators are now at another location digging for the remains of Kelli Ann Cox.

Kelli with her baby daughter, who is now 20 years old, the same age as her mother when she disappeared.

If Kelli Ann Cox is found, it will solve an 18-year-old mystery.

[...]

She was 20 years old, an honor student at North Texas State in Denton and the mother of a baby girl when she disappeared in July 1997 after touring the Denton jail with her criminology class. She phoned her boyfriend to pick her up from a payphone nearby, but was never heard from again.

Reece is cooperating with Texas Rangers and Denton police. Cox's mother, Jan Bynum, said it's the first real break in the case since her daughter disappeared.

“My plea would be for him to tell whoever needs to be told so we can know what happened to our daughter.” Bynum said.

And what do you know, she had car trouble before she disappeared!! Her car wouldn't start so she called her boyfriend from a payphone to pick her up. By the time he got there her car was in the parking lot but she was gone. Good Samaritan Reece was no doubt johnny on the spot to offer his assistance.

Dude sure does have a type, doesn't he? I wonder what his mother looked like, heh. And he stuck with the same MO as well. Guess it worked for him.

(I should probably start a new thread for Kelli, I will tomorrow.)

Murderer William Reece today

Sources tell KPRC 2 that human remains have been found at a dig site in Brazoria County where crews were searching for the body of Kelli Ann Cox, a woman who has been missing for 18 years.

Sources also confirm that Cox's family has been notified about the discovery, but no positive identification has been made.

Crews were digging just north of Angleton, in a field off Highway 288 near County Road 49.

(Also see Jessica Cain's thread, the same guy, William Reece, recently led police to her remains as well.)

I wonder why the preference to stay in a Texas prison vs an Oklahoma one.
Maybe he has a "friend" in his current one which he doesn't want to be separated from.
Or maybe he's a smoker and Ok is smoke free. Hmmm...

Human remains found in Brazoria have been identifed as Kelli Cox.

High ranking law enforcement sources confirm the human remains found at a dig site in Brazoria County last week have been positively identified as Kelli Cox, a Denton woman missing since 1997.

[...]

"He's taking responsibility for cases that would have gone unsolved," Osso said. "He's helping the authorities to bring closure for the families and also for the various police agencies to close these files."

(Reece's attorney) Osso says there are a lot of factors involved, including remorse on the part of Reece. But Osso wouldn't tell abc13 details of everything Reece has told authorities. He says Reece isn't talking much about the possible circumstances that led the killings, only where the bodies are buried.

What a prince. What would have been even better is if he never killed the girls.

[doublepost=1460795104,1459872836][/doublepost]Human remains found in SE Houston field confirmed to be missing teenager Jessica Cain.

The Harris County Medical Examiner confirms DNA led to the identification. Cain was 17 years old when she vanished in 1997. Suspected serial killer, William Reece, led authorities to where he buried her body in a field on E. Orem Road near Hobby Airport.

Reece, who's currently facing a murder charge in a cold case out of Oklahoma, has been cooperating with investigators in exchange for plea deals in at least three murder cases in Texas. He has yet to be charged. His attorney, Anthony Osso, says he wants to avoid trials and keep Reece, whose health is declining, off death row. He also says several agencies have requested to speak to Reece about their unsolved murder cases.

Whoa, at LEAST THREE cold cases in Texas? Has he confessed to the murder of 12 year old Laura Smither? It has to be her, he was on her street literally the same day and time she disappeared.

More victims identified
Audrey Lee Cook was identified as one of two victims found on Calder Road by Leauge City Police.

Her body was found in 1986 and the case went cold until recent advances in DNA evidence. Using family tree evidence connecting to the DNA, police were able to identify Lee.

Lee was born in 1955 in Memphis, Tennessee before moving to Texas. She is estimated to have been approximately 30-years-old at the time of her death. Another body found in the area was also identified as Donna Prudhomme fo Austin, Texas.

Police were also able to identify her through DNA evidence.
