N.Y. Gov. Cuomo signs bill allowing Congress to access Trump's state tax returns

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday signed a bill that would allow certain members of Congress to access President Donald Trump's New York state tax returns.

The bill, which Cuomo had been expected to OK, requires New York officials to release tax returns of public officials that have been requested by "congressional tax-related committees" that have cited "specified and legitimate legislative purpose" in seeking them.

"This bill gives Congress the ability to fulfill its Constitutional responsibilities, strengthen our democratic system and ensure that no one is above the law," Cuomo, a Democrat, said in a statement. "Tax secrecy is paramount — the exception being for bona fide investigative and law enforcement purposes."

Donald Trump, the guy that consistently points out how fat certain women are is himself now in ... "What a fat ass!" territory. I can count at least four chins as well as a couple side pouches for good measure.

1562764914566.png@Prettypink ~ Just looking at some of the figures on what Trumps Fourth cost.

Trump who was inspired to stage the flashy affair after seeing a similar display in France, dismissed concerns ahead of the ceremony about the expense and militaristic overtones of the event outside the 97-year-old Lincoln Memorial, a symbol of national unity.

US Military .... at least $1.2 million.

U.S. National Park Service … $2.5 million in park entrance fees

The actual cost for the Pentagon is likely higher, since the Pentagon said funding for the aircraft demonstrations came from the military services' training budgets.

It was not immediately clear if all of the $1.2 million was for the cost of transporting equipment like two Abrams tanks and two Bradley fighting vehicles from Fort Stewart in Georgia for the celebration.

The military did not immediately provide a breakdown of the cost. Simply flying the B-2 bomber for an hour costs about $122,000, according to the Air Force.

The Kicker

Two Bradley fighting vehicles flanked Trump during his July Fourth speech last week, in which he praised American military might despite having himself avoided the draft during the Vietnam War when Daddy Trump got his Dr. to claim Donnie had bone spurs in his feet.

Trump expected to order citizenship question added to the census

President Donald Trump is expected to announce on Thursday that he is taking executive action to add a citizenship question to the census, according to an administration official.

Trump tweeted that he will hold a press conference in the afternoon to discuss his latest efforts at including the citizenship question as part of the census.

"The White House will be hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today," Trump tweeted. "Would I have become President without Social Media? Yes (probably)! At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference on the Census and Citizenship."

NBC News confirmed that at the news conference the president is expected to announce his executive action to add the question.

Last week, Trump told reporters on the White House South Lawn when asked if he would issue an executive order: "We're thinking about doing that."

"It's one of the ways," he added. "We have four or five ways we can do it. It's one of the ways and we're thinking about doing it very seriously."

"It's one of the ways," he added. "We have four or five ways we can do it. It's one of the ways and we're thinking about doing it very seriously."

The news conference planned for Thursday comes as two federal judges refused to let the Department of Justice withdraw lawyers from a lawsuit over the Trump administration's plans to put the citizenship question on the 2020 census form.

The administration is currently printing census forms without the question after the Supreme Court ruled late last month that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross did not provide an adequate reason for why the question was necessary.

Opponents have said the question is an effort to reduce the number of responses in immigrant communities and diminish their power.

There he goes trampling on the balance of powers again

Ocasio-Cortez calls Pelosi's 'singling out' of Democratic women of color 'disrespectful'
(CNN)Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York suggested that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been "singling out" freshman congresswomen of color — the latest charge in a growing rift between the leader of the party in the chamber and the high-profile progressive freshman.
The comments from lawmakers highlight the tension Pelosi is facing trying to keep her caucus united between a liberal left wing of the party, the moderates that flipped red or purple districts as well as establishment members of the party. But over the past week, it's remarks that Pelosi herself made that appears to have angered a group of four lawmakers -- shorthandedly referred to on Capitol Hill as a "the squad" -- which includes Ocasio-Cortez.

Oh shit, first Kamala showed us that Biden is a racist, now AOC has proven that Pelosi is also a racist!

So which is it? Either the Democrats are infested with racism, or people on the left reflexively use bullshit allegations of racial bias in the face of criticism.

It's been a while since I made a dedicated 'Liberal hypocrisy' post, but this time I'll defer to the master, Mark Dice. No commentary, no manipulation, just Democrats speaking their own words.

Watch this video, lefties. Then please tell me all about how Trump is a racist while Obama, Pelosi, Hillary, et al are virtuous warriors for freedom and equality.

Analysis: Trump folds in latest round of perennial American battle: Citizenship and the census

WASHINGTON — After the courts deprived him of his census — at least the version he wanted — President Donald Trump promised Thursday that he would fight like heck to let Americans know how many residents of the country are citizens and how many aren't.

"We are not backing down," he declared under a foreboding sky in the White House's Rose Garden as he blamed "unfriendly" federal judges and "left-wing" opponents for a legal tangle that forced him to abandon plans to include a citizenship question on the questionnaire the Commerce Department uses in its decennial population count.

Then he announced an executive order directing federal agencies to share with the Commerce Department any information that would help sort people into citizenship-status categories — a process that already occurs in significant measure — to obtain what will perhaps be a slightly more detailed version of a picture that has long since been painted.

Trump citizenship plan will face logistical, legal hurdles

WASHINGTON (AP) — After failing to get his citizenship question on the census, President Donald Trump now says his fallback plan will provide an even more accurate count — determining the citizenship of 90 percent of the population "or more." But his plan will likely be limited by logistical hurdles and legal restrictions.

Trump wants to distill a massive trove of data across seven government agencies — and possibly across 50 states. It's far from clear how such varying systems can be mined, combined and compared.

He directed the Commerce Department, which manages the census, to form a working group.

"The logistical barriers are significant, if not insurmountable," said Paul Light, a senior fellow of Governance Studies at New York University with a long history of research in government reform. "The federal government does not invest, and hasn't been investing for a long time, in the kind of data systems and recruitment of experts that this kind of database construction would require."

Trump says he aims to answer how many people are here illegally, though there already are recent estimates , and possibly use such information to divvy up congressional seats based on citizenship. It's also a way for Trump to show his base that he's not backing down (even as he's had to back down) from a battle over the question on his signature topic, immigration.

Man accused of hurling incendiary devices at Washington immigration detention facility fatally shot by police
By CNN

An armed man was fatally shot early today during a confrontation with police after he hurled incendiary devices at a Washington state immigration detention centre.
The shooting occurred about 4am local time outside the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Northwest Detention Center, where the gunman attempted to set the building and parked cars on fire, according to police spokeswoman Loretta Cool.
Police said the man set a vehicle ablaze in the centre's parking lot and attempted to ignite a propane tank with a flare to set the building on fire.

Rifle-toting man throwing 'incendiary devices' at ICE detention center fatally shot by police

A man armed with a rifle, flares and "incendiary devices" at an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Washington state was fatally shot by police early Saturday, authorities said.

A worker first reported that a man outside the facility was armed with a rifle around 4 a.m., Tacoma police said.
The man, later identified as 69-year-old Willem Van Spronsen, was allegedly throwing lit objects at buildings at Tacoma's North West Detention Center on Saturday when he was shot following a confrontation with responding officers, Tacoma Police Department officials said in a statement released on Saturday.

"It was reported the male was throwing incendiary devices at the Detention Center and then at vehicles in the parking lot," the statement said. "A vehicle was set on fire. The male attempted to ignite a large propane tank and set out buildings on fire. The male continued throwing lit objects at the buildings and cars."

A rifle was recovered at the scene, police said.

Trump tells Dem congresswomen: Go back where you came from

President Donald Trump on Sunday called out progressive Democratic congresswomen and said “why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

While the president didn’t mention them by name in his tweets, it appears he was attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a native of Somalia, and possibly Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), whose family is Palestinian. Both have been outspoken when it comes to Trump’s administration and the conditions of migrant detention centers on the border.

“So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” the president wrote on Twitter.

ummm, Congresswomen Tlaib was born in the United States. Congresswomen Omar is a United States Citizen.

Not content, the Pretender In Chief continued ...

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” he added. “Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

Does anyone believe that Nancy Pelosi would be happy to have the Pretender speak for her on this or any other matter just free wheelin' it on her behalf?

One would think that the Trumpster would tire of the taste of foot in mouth.

What a disgrace.

Republicans ready to dive off a cliff on Obamacare

Republicans have no real plan to establish a new health care system if the courts strike down the Affordable Care Act before the 2020 election. But plenty of them are rooting for its demise anyway — even if it means plunging the GOP into a debate that splits the party and leaves them politically vulnerable.

After a decade of trying to gut Obamacare, Republicans may finally get their wish thanks to a Trump administration-backed lawsuit. Its success would cause chaos not only in the insurance markets but on Capitol Hill. And Republican senators largely welcome it — even if they don’t know what comes next.

“I’m ready for it to succeed,” said Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.). “I would love to get back in and actually deal with health care again.”

“Do I hope the lawsuit succeeds? I do,” said Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.). “What I wish is we had some idea where we are going if it does succeed, as it looks more and more like it might.”

See boys and girls, this is why we don't try to compare conservatives to NAZIs and immigration detention facilities to WW2 death camps. Because some fuckin moron will believe it and feel justified in using violence. But AOC won't feel any guilt, she's too dumb to understand cause and effect relationships.

62 border employees under internal investigation for posts

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Monday that 62 current and eight former Border Patrol employees are under internal investigation following revelations of a secret Facebook group that mocked lawmakers and migrants.

Most are under investigation for posts that surfaced in a secret group called "I'm 10-15," where messages questioned the authenticity of images of a migrant father and child dead on the banks of the Rio Grande River, and depicted crude, doctored images of U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., purporting to perform a sex act on President Donald Trump.

There were posts in at least one other closed group under investigation, he said.

"Messages posted on a private page that are discriminatory or harassing are not protected and violate standards of conduct," said Matthew Klein, assistant commissioner of the agency's Office of Professional Responsibility.

Klein said his agency referred the case to the Homeland Security Department's watchdog agency, which declined to investigate and sent the case back to Customs and Border Protection. He said they are now focused on fact-finding and would identify criminal behavior if there was any, but it was not considered a criminal probe.

ProPublica first posted details of the Facebook group, which boasts 9,500 members, just as Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats were headed to tour border facilities.

Some were graphic, doctored images of Ocasio-Cortez, including one that shows a smiling President Donald Trump forcing her head toward his crotch, according to screenshots obtained by ProPublica. Other comments refer to Ocasio-Cortez and fellow Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar of Texas as "hoes," and one member encouraged agents to throw a "burrito at these bitches."

The unmistakable ugliness of Trump urging brown-skinned congresswomen to ‘go back’ to their countries

The president of the United States on Sunday urged some women in Congress to go back to the countries from which they came. The problem — beyond the nasty historical overtones of such a sentiment, of course — is that three of the four women about whom he appeared to be talking were born in the United States.

Trump’s tweets on these kinds of things are often somewhat carefully crafted — enough to give him some plausible deniability. But it’s pretty clear this one was directed at three American-born congresswomen, as well as one refugee-turned-lawmaker, otherizing them and urging them to return to countries in which they weren’t born.

Gee whiz. It's almost as if calling people who spend their lives defending US law NAZIs and spending your life attempting to undermine everything they work for will make them hate you. Who'd-a-thunk it?

AOC is a hoe. Her pimps are the Justice Democrats. And Ilhan Omar is a terrorist sympathizer who married her brother then commited tax fraud. And Rashida Talib is an idiot. And they all hate America, western values and capitalism. And yes, they all care more for illegals than Americans. Which is not their job.

And they're so concerned about conditions in immigration detention facilities that they all voted against proving these facilities with the funding that they so desperately need. Funding they so desperately need to deal with a crisis that they proclaimed to be "manufactured" for months and months but now consider to be akin to a NAZI genocide. At this point, you'd have to be in possession of a sub-80 IQ to not see through the hypocrisy and shameless race-card deflection antics of these parasites.

Fucking political hacks all of them. Who don't give single shit about illegals suffering or the best interests of the American people. Hacks who have zero shame in their quest for more power.

And you know what is more important than all of this, more important than Trumps tweets? The fact that ANTIFA launched a violent assault against a US government installation. It's almost as if the MSM are reluctant to report on stories that go against the 'alt-left good' narrative. But mean tweets from Trump and bad Facebook posts from ICE are soooo much more important..... Fuck the main stream media. If they're your primary source of information, wake up.

I have no desire to even attempt to engage with that.

Kamala Harris on Sunday labeled President Trump’s comment that Democratic congresswomen should return to their countries of origin as a racist trope and said he is failing to unite the country.

“It is absolutely racist and un-American, and it is an old trope,” Harris said to reporters after a town hall meeting here. “You might hear it on the street but you should never hear it from the president of the United States. This guy doesn’t understand his responsibilities and I don’t think he understands what the American people want from their president, which is somebody who is going to elevate public discourse and speak with a level of dignity with the goal of unity. … That’s why he needs to go.”

House Condemns Trump’s Attack on Four Congresswomen as Racist

WASHINGTON — The House voted on Tuesday to condemn as racist President Trump’s attacks against four congresswomen of color, but only after the debate over the president’s language devolved into a bitterly partisan brawl that showcased deep rifts over race, ethnicity and political ideology in the age of Trump.

The measure passed nearly along party lines following one of the most polarizing exchanges on the House floor in recent memory.

“I know racism when I see it, I know racism when I feel it, and at the highest level of government, there’s no room for racism,” thundered Representative John Lewis, Democrat of Georgia, an icon of the civil rights movement who was nearly beaten to death in Alabama in 1965.

Judge signs order permanently blocking citizenship question from 2020 census

A federal judge in New York on Tuesday signed an order permanently blocking the Trump administration from adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census, days after President Trump gave up on his efforts to get such a question on next year's census.

The order, signed by Judge Jesse Furman, was jointly drafted by the parties opposing the citizenship question.

It stops administration officials "from including a citizenship question on the 2020 decennial census questionnaire; from delaying the process of printing the 2020 decennial census questionnaire after June 30, 2019 for the purpose of including a citizenship question; and from asking persons about citizenship status on the 2020 census questionnaire or otherwise asking a citizenship question as part of the 2020 decennial census."

The order also states that Furman, an Obama appointee, will be able to enforce the order "until the 2020 census results are processed and sent to the President by December 31, 2020."

Republicans' choice: Stand with Trump or risk his wrath

Trump has already informed at least two GOP lawmakers of his dissatisfaction with their defense of his racist tweets.

Sen. John Cornyn prides himself on winning a large share of the Latino vote in Texas, campaigning in the Asian American community, and running ads in three languages. It’s a crucial strategy for a Republican in a diverse state — and one that is sharply divergent from President Donald Trump’s approach.

So as Cornyn seeks reelection next year with Trump on the ballot, he’s making sure that he isn’t dragged down by the president’s more inflammatory politics, exemplified again this week by his racist tweets telling four liberal Democratic congresswomen to “go back” to where they came from.

“I don’t have any trouble speaking to any of my constituents. They don’t confuse me with what’s happening up here in D.C.,” said Cornyn, who has gently criticized Trump’s battle as a “mistake” that unified Democrats. “I know we are consumed by this here, but it doesn’t consume my constituents when I go back home.”

It’s a common refrain for Republicans trying to deflect a Trump-fueled firestorm and highlights the dilemma that the party will face for months to come.

GOP lawmakers, especially those facing potentially tough reelection bids, need to create independent identities to win over Trump skeptics. But if they break too fiercely with the president, he and his grassroots supporters might turn on them, with disastrous political consequences.

In fact, Trump has already been angered at what he sees as a weak defense by Republican members of Congress and has informed at least two lawmakers of his dissatisfaction, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the matter.

That reaction explains the ginger response to Trump by Republicans up for reelection in difficult races, who are caught between condemning the president’s words and facing his wrath.

“I wouldn’t have done it. That’s not what we ought to focus on in this country,” said Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) of Trump’s tweets. Gardner is up for reelection in an increasingly blue state. And while he’s endorsed Trump in 2020, he says he disagrees with Trump’s rhetoric: “We should focus on ways to bring people together.”

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who has not endorsed Trump, has called on the president to withdraw his “way out of bounds and offensive” tweet.

~ @CentreAussie ~ Well now, that was quite the rant and I certainly hope you feel better for getting "How I See It, A Personal View" by CentreAussie, provided without links or documentation to back it out there.

Let me assure you that as you entreat, "I am wide awake" and the frightening thing to me after reading all that is the almost frothing at the mouth, raw anger you have displayed.

I have no desire to even attempt to engage with that.

I feel much better thank-you.

Yes, that was an opinion piece. I prefer to formulate writings based on my own ideas and thoughts, rather than cut and paste the opinions of other people.

Don't be scared, they're just words. And despite what some people might say, words don't equal violence, hate speech doesn't exist and ideas can't hurt you.

@CentreAussie Good Day to you and thanks for your reply.

Here is mine.

Words are powerful. They can inspire us to greatness. We use them to express love, pain, exasperation, happiness, our state of being as well as our care and concern for others.

Words are powerful. They can absolutely inspire hate, violence, rage, confusion and confrontation.

I actually agree with all of that. But you forgot a crucial point. Art can inspire hate, music can stimulate rage and a coffee mug with a controversial image printed on it can be confronting. People can draw inspiration from practically anything. The actions of people can be violent. Absent incitement and threats, words cannot. Speech that inspires rage, confusion or even hate is just that - speech. There are no special categories. Millions have died to ensure that.
