Suspicious Activity Seen Trump, Kushner Deutsche Bank Accounts

Anti-money laundering specialists at Deutsche Bank recommended in 2016 and 2017 that multiple transactions involving legal entities controlled by Donald J. Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, be reported to a federal financial-crimes.

The transactions, some of which involved Mr. Trump’s now-defunct foundation, set off alerts in a computer system designed to detect illicit activity, according to five current and former bank employees. Compliance staff members who then reviewed the transactions prepared so-called suspicious activity reports that they believed should be sent to a unit of the Treasury Department that polices financial crimes.

But executives at Deutsche Bank, which has lent billions of dollars to the Trump and Kushner companies, rejected their employees’ advice. The reports were never filed with the government.

Mitch McConnell embraces his dark side

Call him “Cocaine Mitch,” “Nuclear Mitch,” or the steward of the “legislative graveyard.” Mitch McConnell says he’s the “Grim Reaper” anyway, so he’s loving every minute of it.

While his critics have tried to make the Kentucky Republican public enemy No. 1, the Senate GOP leader has embraced the demonization in a bid to protect his Senate majority, his own seat and his title as longest serving Senate GOP leader in U.S. history

“We need to have a little fun in this business,” McConnell said in a brief interview. “I used to call myself Darth Vader when I was back in the campaign finance wars.”
McConnell’s recasting as a cartoon villain of the left is a dramatic transformation from the tight-lipped, low-key Republican leader who was once the scourge of conservatives and even, at times, President Donald Trump.

But McConnell has renovated his reputation on the right with his blunt exercise of power — confirming two Supreme Court justices and dismantling portions of the filibuster while developing a knack for driving both Democrats and his own GOP opponents mad.

Trump and the Four-Letter Presidency

WASHINGTON — In modern times, presidents have rarely been church mice afraid of a little salty language. But President Trump has grown increasingly willing in recent months to say in public what most of his predecessors tried to keep behind closed doors.

His is the profanity presidency, full of four-letter denunciations of his enemies and earthy dismissals of allegations lodged against him. At rallies and in interviews, on Twitter and in formal speeches, he relishes the bad-boy language of a shock jock, just one more way of gleefully provoking the political establishment bothered by his norm-shattering ways

In a single speech on Friday alone, he managed to throw out a “hell,” an “ass” and a couple of “bullsh**s” for good measure. In the course of just one rally in Panama City Beach, Fla., earlier this month, he tossed out 10 “hells,” three “damns” and a “crap.” The audiences did not seem to mind. They cheered and whooped and applauded.

Some Republicans unsettled by Trump’s sweeping claims of immunity

Senior House Republicans are breaking with Donald Trump over the president’s legal claims that Congress can’t investigate whether a commander-in-chief violated the law.

That view, advanced by Trump’s personal attorney and White House counsel late last week, would upend long-held understandings about Congress’ ability to scrutinize presidential conduct — especially alleged criminal activity.

“I’m in Congress. I’m aligned with Congress. I’m not aligned with the executive branch. And I think we have oversight authority over the administration,” said Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), a member of the House Judiciary Committee. “And if the president has acted illegally, then I think we have oversight authority.”

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), a veteran lawmaker who first came to Capitol Hill in the early 1980s as a congressional staffer, also said he didn’t agree with Trump’s legal theories.

“Obviously there is such a thing as congressional oversight,” Cole said.

Institutionalist-minded Republicans are increasingly uncomfortable with the far-reaching arguments Trump and his lawyers are using to make their case, amid fears the claims of near-immunity from congressional scrutiny will set dangerous precedents.

Trump goes off on impeachment in early morning tweetstorm

President Donald Trump went off on Twitter Wednesday morning about the chorus of Democratic calls to bring forth impeachment proceedings against him, claiming that Democrats want a "DO OVER" of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Schumer calls Trump a ‘get-nothing-done president’ as blame game continues after aborted White House meeting

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) blasted President Trump on Thursday as “an erratic, helter-skelter, get-nothing-done president,” as a war of words spilled into a second day over an aborted meeting on the nation’s infrastructure.

During a morning television appearance, Schumer said “the show” put on by Trump on Wednesday was intended as a “coverup” of his administration’s inability to work with Congress on legislative priorities such as infrastructure.

“If he were smart, he’d sit down with us,” Schumer said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “We want to do this, and he’s incapable of it.”

Mueller To Speak To the Nation At 11 AM

Special counsel Robert Mueller will make a statement on Wednesday regarding his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, his first public comments regarding the high-profile investigation he was appointed to lead two years ago.

The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, will be streamed live on the department's website, the release said. Mueller will not take questions.

Mueller’s remarks come less than a week after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler said that Mueller wanted to testify privately to Congress about the probe. Some Democrats pushed for Mueller to testify publicly. President Donald Trump has said that Mueller should not testify.

The White House was advised Tuesday that Mueller “may make a statement,” a senior

Mueller, in First Comments on Russia Inquiry, Declines to Clear Trump

WASHINGTON — Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, on Wednesday characterized for the first time his investigation of whether President Trump obstructed justice, saying “if we had confidence the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”

In what he said would be his only comments on his nearly two-year inquiry, he said that while Justice Department policy prohibits charging a sitting president with a crime, the Constitution provides for another process — a clear reference to the ability of Congress to impeach the president.

He suggested that he was reluctant to testify before Congress. “The report is my testimony,” he said. He said he was grateful to Attorney General William P. Barr for releasing the vast majority of it.

Mueller, in First Comments on Russia Inquiry, Declines to Clear Trump

I think that should read "Mueller, in First Comments on Russia Inquiry, ignores the fact that he did NOT find any evidence of 'collusion with Russia', despite the 2 years of assertions by the left that said evidence would be forthcoming, promptly. Thus proving that they were lying to American people."

If Robert Mueller was a doctor... "While we found no cancer, we still don't have any evidence that you DON'T have cancer. We would certainly say so if we did. So Congress is free to proceed with Chemotherapy if they so choose."

Or to put it as simply as possible for the simpletons, - "The Clinton campaign had a server that was hacked. Oh yeah, it was totally Trumps fault."

All Mueller did today was prove that he is a partisan. One who couldn't find any evidence of any criminality on Trumps behalf.

If Mueller would have prosecuted in the absence of OLC standards, he should have clarified that. He wouldn't forget to say that, right?

Everything you should know about Robert Mueller, who led the government's two-year investigation into Trump and Russia

  • For almost two years, Robert Mueller led the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference - and whether the Trump campaign coordinated with the Kremlin.
  • Previously, he was the longest-serving FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover. Mueller was nominated to the position by President George W. Bush, and sworn in a week before 9/11.
  • On May 17, 2017, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller special counsel to take over the Russia investigation, and on May 29, 2019, Mueller announced he was stepping down following the release of his final report in April 2019.
  • While special counsel, Mueller drew President Donald Trump's ire for investigating him.
  • Here's a look at Mueller's career, and how he got to where he is now.
The special counsel Robert Mueller, 74, announced in a May 29 press conference he will be officially stepping down after the release of his full, redacted report on the Russia investigation to the public in April.

That probe was also examining whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin, and if President Donald Trump has obstructed justice while in office.

In Washington, Mueller has a reputation for being a tenacious investigator. Both Republicans and Democrats welcomed his appointment in May 2017 with bipartisan backing.

His team indicted dozens of people, companies, and entities in the investigation, but the breadth and length of his investigation irked many Trump supporters, and the president himself.

Mueller made it explicitly clear that the report did not exonerate Trump, and that his office had no ability to charge Trump with a crime given existing DOJ policy prohibiting prosecutors from indicting a sitting president.

"If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so," Mueller said in his only press conference.

Now that Mueller's work is done, it will be up to Congress to determine whether or not to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump.

Mueller's colleagues, meanwhile, say he has proven his bipartisan bona fides over the years. After all, he served under both Republican and Democratic presidents as FBI director and as an attorney in the Department of Justice.

Trump Issues Flurry of Falsehoods After Mueller Declined to Exonerate Him

President Donald Trump rattled off numerous contradictory statements, baseless accusations and falsehoods Thursday morning following former special counsel Robert Mueller’s rare on-camera statement the day prior, in which he reiterated one of his report’s conclusions that he could not exonerate the president of committing any crimes.

Among the false claims made by Trump to reporters on the White House’s South Lawn before boarding Marine One were that Russia wanted Hillary Clinton to be elected and that the courts would prevent Congress from impeaching him. On the former special counsel, Trump falsely or baselessly claimed that Mueller cleared him of any criminal wrongdoing, wanted another stint as FBI director, was a “never-Trumper” and had conflicts of interest that should have prevented him from becoming special counsel.

In addition to the false claims, the president contradicted himself after publicly admitting—for the first time—in a tweet that “Russia help[ed] me to get elected.”

“Russia did not help me get elected,” Trump told reporters minutes later. “You know who got me elected? You know who got me elected? I got me elected. Russia didn’t help me at all. Russia, if anything, I think, helped the other side.” He falsely added that “Russia would rather have Hillary Clinton as president.”

The Mueller reported concluded that “the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion” and that the “Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and that the Campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.”

"There was no crime"
The president went on to claim—falsely—that in both Mueller’s report and his Wednesday remarks, the former special counsel exonerated him of any criminal wrongdoing, including on obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges.

“[Mueller] said, essentially, ‘You're innocent.’ I'm innocent of all charges,” Trump falsely said. “And, you know, the thing that nobody brings up: There was no crime. They're saying ‘he's obstructing something’ and there was no crime.”

I don't think that Mueller ever said he would have prosecuted if not for the OLC opinion preventing the indictment of a president. Barr testified that under oath that the standard of evidence for criminality in regards to obstruction had not been met. If it had, Barr committed perjury. No one is seriously saying Barr committed perjury. When it comes to criminal proceedings innocent until proven guilty is still the standard. Mueller saying "If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so" is a disgrace. He knows better than that.

"The opinion says you cannot indict a president while he is in office, but he could've reached a decision as to whether it was criminal activity,"

Lay that disgrace you feel where it belongs. Trumps feet.

That statement from Mueller means nothing. It's not the job of a DOJ investigation to prove innocence. It's their job to prove guilt. Which he did not do. If they had, Mueller would have said so, even in light of the OLC opinion. Mueller has refused to say that the President committed any criminal act, while agreeing with Barrs conclusions, despite what the lunatic left and the MSM spin machine would have you believe. Which means Mueller himself doesn't believe that the President is guilty of anything. If that were not that case, he was free to say otherwise. Which (once again for the slow learners among us) he refuses to do.

This 'guilty until proven innocent' standard that you and Mueller are applying here is awfully 'Soviet Russia' of you. That must mean that you both are guilty of being Russian agents. If I had confidence that your weren't, I would say so.

Washington (CNN)Special counsel Robert Mueller said in a rare and remarkable public statement Wednesday his investigation could not clear President Donald Trump and that charging the President was not an option his office could consider.
In Mueller's first public comments on the investigation since he was appointed special counsel two years ago, he emphasized that Justice Department guidelines did not allow him to charge a sitting President, and as a result, his office did not determine whether Trump had committed obstruction of justice.
"If we had had confidence that the President clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so," Mueller said. "We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the President did commit a crime."

Did Muellers investigation (or any of the other ones, for that matter) find evidence to the legal standard of criminality on behalf of the President? No. Therefore in the eyes of the law, he was in fact cleared. There is no middle ground here for Mueller to be treading. Either he is guilty of something, or he is innocent. The inability of the SC to indict Trump in no way prevented Mueller from delivering a finding that Trump committed obstruction, despite the lies and misdirection. Him claiming that he was prevented from delivering that finding due to the OLC opinion regarding indicting a President, was a blatant lie. One more lie that the media is perpetuating and one more that lefties refuse to acknowledge. What Mueller said is a political statement, aimed at prodding Democrats into initiating impeachment proceedings which do not require a criminal standard of evidence. I say bring it. Pelosi knows that impeachment would be an absolute gift to Trump, while Waters and co advocate it to pander to their base.

Protester grabs mic from Kamala Harris

18384

A protester rushed on stage Saturday during MoveOn's Big Ideas Forum and grabbed the microphone from 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris. The man tried to say he wanted "attention for a much bigger idea" before he was led offstage.

Harris pushed equal pay as her big idea during the forum. As she was discussing student loans for black students, the protester walked up and interrupted her, causing her to leave the stage as staffers and even her husband, Doug Emhoff, tried to remove the man.

After he was escorted off the stage, Harris returned to chants of "Kamala, Kamala."

Harris quickly picked up where the panel left off, saying "you have a question and I want to answer it" to the moderators, who asked her about crime statistics.

The lawmaker is one of 14 Democratic hopefuls who have descended on San Francisco for the California Democratic convention this weekend — and the only one with a hometown advantage. Deep-blue California is not usually considered an important primary stop for Democrats, but the state's primary has been moved up to Super Tuesday. At stake on March 3 will be a share of California's 495 delegates, which are handed out proportionally.

"There's a chance for maybe two, three, maybe even as many as four — depending on how the contest is going — candidates to collect enough delegates here to continue on," CBS News correspondent Ed O'Keefe said on CBSN.
