As the funeral procession for 90 year old Evelyn Mary Osborne was taking place in Lilburn GA, a drunk driver slammed into the hearse carrying her remains, causing the vehicle with two funeral directors and the casket inside to flip several times.

According to a Lilburn police report, Troy Hickey ignored the police officers who were directing traffic on Friday, and is charged with DUI, drug and traffic offenses.
Hickey tried to explain to an officer at the scene that he had used the synthetic opioid methadone "three weeks ago", but the officer noticed fresh injection wounds, or "track marks" on both of Hickey's arms while interviewing him after the crash.

The two funeral directors who were in the hearse when it was hit were taken to the hospital for treatment, but there is no information on either of their conditions at this time.

"The family of 90-year-old Evelyn Mary Osborne says she protected them even in death as her hearse was hit, not the limo they were in."

Hopefully, Evelyn Osborne had a peaceful death at the grand old age of 90, with far more dignity than her remains suffered during her not quite final travel to her eventual place of eternal rest.

Older mugshot of Troy Michael Hickey from a previous arrest in 2012, and Gwinnett County bookings confirm this is the same person:

Awkward! Does the funeral proceed? Does everyone go home and they try again later? At least it wasn't a NO funeral with a jazz band following the hearse on foot.
