A Wisconsin couple have been arrested after their 15-year-old son died in the midst of a 40-day fast, according to police.

Kehinde Omosebi, 49, walked into the Reedsburg Police Department to report the death of his son, Ayanfe Omosebi, according to police chief Timothy Becker.

Officers responded to the family's home but found that they had to force themselves in because the doors were padlocked from the inside.

Inside, police found Ayanfe Omosebi 'extremely emaciated and deceased,' Chippewa.com reports.

The boy's mother, 48-year-old Titilayno Omosebi, was also found in the home emaciated along with an 11-year-old child.

Kehinde shared with authorities that they had been on a fast since July 19 and that he was a 'religious minister affiliated with Cornerstone Reformation Ministries'.

The father told police that his son died on Friday which would have marked the 44th day since they started fasting.

No food was found at the residence. Both Titilayno and her 11-year-old child were taken to a hospital. The mother refused treatment, citing religious reasons.

Both parents were taken to the Sauk County Jail for charges of child neglect causing death and neglecting a child causing great bodily harm.

The 11-year-old was taken to child protective custody and the Children's Hospital in Madison.

EEDSBURG, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin prosecutors charged a father and mother Tuesday with child neglect for allegedly allowing their teenage son to starve to death and his brother to become severely emaciated during a religious fast.

Sauk County prosecutors charged Kehinde Omosebi, 49, and Titilayo Omosebi, 48, with child neglect causing death and child neglect causing great bodily harm. Both charges are felonies and carry a combined maximum sentence of 37 years in prison, the Wisconsin State Journal reported .

Sauk County Circuit Judge Wendy J.N. Klicko set bail at $5,000 for Kehinde Omosebi during his initial court appearance Tuesday. His attorney, listed in online court records as Leonie Dolch, didn’t immediately return a voicemail. Assistant District Attorney Linda Hoffman said Kehinde Omosebi told police he believes he has done nothing wrong, the State Journal reported.

Titilayo Omosebi is due to make her initial appearance Wednesday. Online court records didn’t list an attorney for her.

Kehinde Omosebi walked to the Reedsburg police station Sunday to report the death of his 15-year-old son, according to police Chief Timothy Becker. When police arrived at the family’s home they found the dead teen and an extremely emaciated 11-year-old boy. The mother was also found to be emaciated.

Becker said the father told police he was a minister affiliated with Cornerstone Reformation Ministries and that the family had started a religious fast on July 19. Investigators do not believe the father is a minister and made up the name of the ministry, Becker said.

“There’s no IRS number, no corporation,” he said.

No food was found in the house and police had to force their way into the home because doors were padlocked on the inside.

“The residence had no phone, no power, no food,” Becker told the State Journal. “There was a gym bag in the garage with some clothes in it. That was it, with the exception of a tambourine that was found.”

Hoffman, the assistant district attorney, said Kehinde Omosebi told police he was planning to move his family to Atlanta. He sold all the family’s belongings and hadn’t paid rent in several months, she said in court.

Dolch told the court that Kehinde Omosebi had worked at a Reedsburg foundry but has been unemployed since February.

The younger boy and his mother were brought to the hospital. The mother refused treatment, citing religious reasons, and was taken to the Sauk County Jail.

The 11-year-old is in protective custody at Children’s Hospital in Madison. Becker said the parents are eating while jailed in Baraboo. Reedsburg, a community of about 10,000, is located approximately 130 miles (209 kilometers) west of Milwaukee.

This is certainly a new breed of "reformation". All the reformed churches I've seen in the past were only an excuse to wear jeans instead of getting dressed up. :angelic:

"The father told police that his son died on Friday which would have marked the 44th day since they started fasting."

If this was supposed to be a 40 day fast, they ran a lil over didn't they? Oh the shit people do in the name of religion :shifty:

God doesn't ask children, the sick or elderly to fast. No one is supposed to fast if they get ill from it.
God is counting on parents to watch over their children in this. You know , to be a good shepherd like God.
Then you get these fanatics with their own spin on it.

The younger brother of a 15-year-old boy who starved to death while their family prayed and fasted for weeks wrote a letter that investigators found inside the locked southern Wisconsin apartment pleading with lawyers to save him.

The emaciated 11-year-old boy was clutching a Bible and an envelope containing pamphlets about death on Monday when officers found him, his mother and his brother’s body in the family’s Reedsburg apartment, which had no power and was padlocked from the inside, authorities say. Investigators also found the younger boy’s handwritten letter, which was addressed to “Lawyers of Sauk County.”

“The hunger is too much,” the boy wrote. “Please help me now so I may eat. I can’t continue in such a life with no food. If I don’t get food now I’ll probably die of hunger.”

The parents, Kehinde and Titilayo Omosebi, were charged Tuesday with child neglect causing death and child neglect causing great bodily harm. The charge involving death carries a maximum prison term of 25 years.

According to the criminal complaint, Kehinde Omosebi walked to the Reedsburg police station Monday to report that his 15-year-old son had died in their apartment during the fast.

Officers found the apartment’s doors padlocked from the inside and the power turned off. The family had no food in the home and the only furniture was a bed and four metal folding chairs arranged in a square. In one of the chairs was the 15-year-old boy’s body. Officers wrote that the boy was so emaciated they could see his backbone and ribs under his skin.

According to the police, the father said the boy died on Friday and that the family prayed for two days, in accordance with their religious beliefs, before he walked to the police station to report it. Police Chief Timothy Becker said Kehinde Omosebi told investigators that he is a minister with Cornerstone Reformation Ministries, but they don’t believe him because they haven’t been able to find any record of such a ministry. He said the couple is originally from Nigeria.

Kehinde Omosebi told police the last time the family had eaten was July 17, according to the complaint. He said the family had fasted before but never for so long.

A Reedsburg mother has reached a plea deal with prosecutors after one of her children was found starved to death following a Religous fast.

Titilayo Omosebi was in Sauk County court on Thursday to enter a guilty plea to one count of Neglecting a Child with a Consequence of Death. In exchange for the plea one count of Neglecting a Child with Consequence of Great Bodily Harm was thrown out.

Omosebi's 15-year-old son was found dead back in September. His 11-year-old brother was found alive but severely malnourished.

Her husband, Kehinde, is also facing charges of Child Neglect and is undergoing competency evaluations.

A mother, who pleaded guilty to the starvation death of her child, was given a six-year sentence Thursday.

Titilayo Omosebi was sentenced to three years in prison followed by three years of extended supervision.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Wendy Klicko noted that at the end of that time Omosebi’s younger son would be 18 and able to decide for himself whether or not to continue to associate with his parents.

Reedsburg Police investigated after a 15-year-old boy was found dead in his home in September. Police say he was extremely emaciated. His 11-year-old brother was also found extremely malnourished but was alive.

Their parents told police they were participating in a religious fast.

A man accused of starving his two sons in a Reedsburg fasting case, leading to the death of one of them in September 2018, has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Judge Wendy Klicko found Kehinde Omosebi mentally unfit to stand trial after a second psychiatric exam, according to online court records on Wisconsin Circuit Court Access.

In May, the court ordered Omosebi, who originally is from Nigeria, to undergo a second psychiatric evaluation to further review his mental health after his attorney said Omosebi claimed both his sons were still alive, according to online court records. In March, the court ruled Omosebi competent to stand trial at a hearing after the first psychiatric exam.

Klicko ordered Omosebi to be committed to a mental health facility Sept. 6. The order is to be reviewed again in a year.

Omosebi faces two felony charges of child neglect after police discovered the emaciated body of his 15-year-old child in Omosebi’s home. His 11-year-old also was found emaciated in the residence that reportedly had their home and little to no food and little furniture.

Authorities say the family participated in a weeks-long religious fast at Omosebi’s direction in order to receive a blessing from God with hopes to relocate from the area. The parents participated in the fast along with the children. Omosebi reported the death of his eldest son at the Reedsburg Police Station two days after his 15-year-old son died.

Omosebi’s wife, Titilayo, also was charged in the case and was sentenced to serve three years in prison.
