In 1998, a young Polish university student disappeared without a trace. Several months later, a ship makes an unexpected stop when something gets stuck inside a propeller.

They found a suit made from the skin of Katarzyna Zowada, the student who disappeared months earlier.

Someone cut all the limbs and head from the body, then made a body suit with the remains. It is unclear how the human skin suit wound up in the water. Authorities suspect the killer wore the body suit at some point. Days later, police found a right leg floating in the river.

The case went cold until 2017, police received a tip from a friend of a man named Robert Janczewski. Police did not release the contents of the letter, although it did lead them to arrest Janczewski.

A former employee at the Cracow Institute of Zoology, the 52-year-old was charged with Katarzyna’s murder. He was trained in martial arts, knew the victim, visited her grave several times, and his history included harassing women. Janczewski was fired from his job the day after he killed all of the rabbits at the institute. He could not explain why he killed the rabbits when asked.

An examination concluded that the skin had deliberately been removed and transformed into a bodysuit.

The body was then exhumed after a group dubbed the 'X-Files" teamed up with the Polish Police in 2012.

Together, they determined that the killer had used a sharp tool to conduct the extreme torture against Katarzyna who had died from blood loss

Expert Duarte Nuno Vieira said in a report at the time: "The 23-year-old student was beaten first, then her neck, armpits, and groin were cut with a knife, and she died from blood loss.

"The victim was probably alive when she was skinned.

"The right limb over the ankle joint had to be strapped to something until finally, between December 7 and 14, 1998, the perpetrator choked the victim with the chain. Before that, he had been giving her drugs.

"Stab wounds, chop wounds, and lacerations were also discovered. He also probably sexually abused her when she was dead."

I read, A LOT! And I have read lots of books about serial killers and watched as many true crime documentaries as I can find, but I believe this is one of the most horrific cases I have read or seen.
