A 16-year-old Calimesa boy will be tried as an adult on charges that he raped two young children.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies from Cabazon were called Nov. 19 to a home in Calimesa, where a woman said her 5-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son accused Isaiah Javon Gholston, 16, of molesting them, according to a declaration filed by police seeking an arrest warrant.
The girl said Gholston molested, raped and sodomized her repeatedly from May 2009 to November 2011, according to a criminal complaint.
The boy said he witnessed the rape, and he told authorities Gholston also raped and molested him during the same time period, according to court records.
Gholston, who was living at the home, was removed by the family to protect the other children, Riverside County sheriff’s officials said.
After several months of interviews and testing evidence, detectives submitted the case to the Riverside County district attorney’s office. Last week, prosecutors charged Gholston in adult court with six felonies, including rape and lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14.
Gholston was arrested Friday and booked at Riverside Juvenile Hall. Bail was set at $1 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Riverside juvenile court. After he enters a plea, his case will be tried in adult court.
Gholston’s arrest came one day after another 17-year-old boy was accused of raping two young relatives in Banning. Authorities say the two investigations are unrelated.
