The 16-year-old boy appeared in court on both charges after the girl's body was found in woodland near her grandparents' house.

A teenager has appeared in court charged with the rape and murder of six-year-old Alesha MacPhail, who was found dead on the Isle of Bute.
The 16-year-old was arrested two days after Alesha's body was discovered in woodland near her grandparents' house on the Scottish island, west of Glasgow, on Monday.
She was reported missing from her home at 6.25am that day and her body was found less than three hours later.
Officers have not specified how Alesha died, but a murder investigation was launched following the results of a post-mortem.
A pupil at Chapelside Primary School in Airdrie, Alesha was at the start of a three-week break when she was reported missing.

Damn i hate when this stuff happens in Europe. At least in America, there is a chance the guilty party will face punishment. Europe doesnt give a shit.

The family of a six-year-old girl allegedly raped and murdered walked out of court today as images of her body were shown to a jury.

Alesha MacPhail was found face down in woodland on the Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland, on July 2 last year.

Giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow, Scotland, today, police crime examiners described the scene where Alesha's body was discovered.

Images were shown to the court showing the young girl's naked body, which was found in the grounds of the former Kyles Hydropathic Hotel at Port Bannatyne.

A post-mortem examination determined the cause of death as "pressure to neck and face".

Alesha's family left the courtroom this morning as the images were shown.

The jury heard shorts, pants and a vest were recovered a short distance from the six-year-old's body.

Alesha MacPhail suffered "catastrophic" injuries which were some of the most severe the pathologist had ever seen, a court has heard.

Pathologist John Williams said the youngster suffered more severe injuries to that part of her body than he had ever seen before.

Alesha had a total of 117 separate injuries, he said.

The High Court in Glasgow was shown graphic images of these, which judge Lord Matthews warned were "distressing".

Most of the the 117 injuries were caused by the nature of the ground she was lying on, the jury was told.

Advocate depute Iain McSporran QC asked him: "Have you ever before seen injuries of these sort to the private parts?"

Dr Williams replied: "No."

Questioned by Brian McConnachie QC, for the accused, who described Alesha's injuries as "catastrophic", Dr Williams said he had never been shown an object that could have caused them.

What's the point of a trial or all this fuss at all when the punishment will be 10 years max? Such a miniscule penalty compared to the crime, does it even really matter? How many people in that court room, from justice system professionals to the civilians forced to sit on the jury are going to be scarred for life from having to witness all this disgusting shit, and for what great purpose? Fucking none.

They cant even name the criminal. It's outrageous.

Nice move, Granny.

"She told the court that on the night Alesha went missing the key was in the lock of the door. She said: "I'd forgotten to take the key back out of the door."

Shocked they released the name. Wonder how many legislators in that country arent going to be able to sleep tonight knowing they failed to protect a violent criminal

The teenage murderer of Alesha MacPhail has had his life sentence cut on appeal.

Aaron Campbell will now serve a minimum of 24 years for raping and killing the six-year-old.

The 17-year-old claimed his original sentence of 27 years was 'excessive' in an appeal heard at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh last month.

Three of the country’s top judges have now decided that the minimum term he will serve before being considered for parole will be reduced from 27 years to 24.

The killer’s solicitor Brian McConnachie told the appeal that the day of his release "may never come" but said the minimum punishment was "excessive and amounts to a miscarriage of justice" due to his age.

Mr McConnachie told the three judges at the start of the appeal: "It was clearly an appalling and heinous crime.

"The outcome of this appeal will not determine when, or indeed if, the appellant is allowed release."

Campbell will now be 40-years-old when his release can be considered for the first time.

The sentence is still serving the longest terms of detention ever imposed on a juvenile offender in Scotland.

As if this story wasn't seamy enough, now it's come out that this murderous little prick was keeping company with a convicted sex offender:
Little Alesha MacPhail's killer was allegedly linked to a convicted female sex offender in the months leading up to the horrifying rape and murder of the six-year-old girl.

Aaron Campbell, 16, was reportedly in regular contact with Zanythe Harrison, 38, who notoriously groomed a 14-year-old girl to perform webcam sex shows for pedophiles on the Isle of Bute. In 2008, the mother-of-four avoided jail in a plea deal that required her to admit to directing the adult shows filmed at a flat involving a 14-year-old girl, Daily Mail reports.

Speaking to the Daily Record on condition of anonymity, a source close to Harrison said she often met with her due to a mutual acquaintance before Campbell killed Alesha in July last year. "Obviously, Campbell was obsessed with dark things on the web and I'm sure he would have known about Zanythe's convictions," the Bute resident told the newspaper, "He maybe thought sex offenders don't get that much of a punishment. This could have played a part in his twisted crime if he thought he would get away with it."

It is scary that one day he will be back on the streets.

Anyone who allows him into their home or child's life is asking for trouble.
