Six spring breakers at a Florida rental home overdosed on fentanyl-laced cocaine, leaving one in critical condition, authorities said.

Paramedics responded to a short-term Airbnb rental home Thursday in Wilton Manors and found six people in cardiac arrest from a drug overdose, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan told WPLG.

“Narcan was deployed as quickly as possible,” Gollan said, referring to a drug that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses. “This is extremely alarming to us.”

The students overdosed on what they thought was cocaine, but had actually been laced with fentanyl — a synthetic opioid 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine.
Just four of the students used the laced cocaine. Two others got sick after using life-saving measures on the initial overdose victims, authorities told the station.

“When they went down in cardiac arrest, two of their friends began doing CPR, and they were exposed from the drug contact from the fentanyl,” Gollan said.

If all they were going to do was get high, they could have stayed home and saved the travel expenses. At least that way they might have gotten drugs that weren't tampered with and cut as dangerously if they had a trusted dealer.
Ultimately though who cares, they have no good sense.
Charge them for the treatment and send them home.
 
There was a case last month in a suburb outside of Denver a family had a get together 5 people died from fentanyl laced coke. They found a person wandering dazed around an apartment complex carrying a four month old baby. That led them back to the apartment with 5 corpses including the baby’s parents. Terrible. I mean my family gatherings usually involve copious amounts of spiral ham, chips and dip and actual Coca-Cola . But still it’s awful.
 
Fentanyl is so toxic that you can overdose just by getting it on your skin. I have looked on boxes of medical rubber gloves and they say that they protect from fentanyl. So when the two friends who did not partake in the tainted cocaine tried mouth to mouth, they overdosed too!
I wonder how much of this fentanyl comes across our southern border...

From what I understand fent from China is super plentiful and super cheap. The manufacturers or dealers just half the good pure stuff with the cheap fentanyl stuff and sell it to dummies who either don’t care (hard core junkies who actually like fent) or don’t know the difference (Spring Break/Weekend dabblers). I only know this because I learned this on a power point for my new job training last month. :)

when any drugs are cheap - dealers will cut with the cheaper drug n then usually add a filler as well... you cant just cut it way down with filler, because then your shit sucks n no one wants to buy it...

This happened in late 90's early 2000's with extacy - it got so popular prices went up so people started cutting it with heroin and/or coke/meth... we went from having a blast rolling on weekends, to buying off same people and either half stuck in a couch just staring at each other after throwing up (because it was cut with dope) OR running around the house all night half rolling, half all coked out... when it was pure x we woke up the next day tired.. when they started cutting it you woke up feeling like shit and gross...

which is right around same time people were taking tons of oxy's, then it got cut off and really expensive to get so people started doing heroin: you could pay 80 bucks for an 80 oxy OR spend 5 bucks on a bag of dope for the same feeling....

There are people out there now that are the risidual left overs from the oxy/heroin surge... they have been doing heroin for so long they have to take a shit ton just to feel straight, so now they need fentenal to actually feel high... so there are people out there looking for heroin cut with it, so they know they will get high -some people do straight fet because there bodies are used to a shit ton of dope...

@Alxprkrkrls : as far as who would cut an upper with a downer - there are plenty of people out there that like both, some with take uppers all night and then take downers to end their night and many people like to do what they refer to as "speed-balls" which is coke and heroin together or meth/crystal and heroin together

people used to "candy-flip: which was taking acid/shrooms and extacy together (one of my favorites back in the day) good festival and a group of friends candy flipping made for a great weekend

I just read an article that says a suspect has been arrested but didn’t identify the suspect. I assume it was the drug dealer. Something I found interesting is that the local PD is recommending users test drugs before consuming. I’m curious how a person would do that.

I cannot even explain the high .. I have never used fentanyl .. but I have mixed uppers & downers .. it’s a euphoric high where all time literally ceases and the only thing that you’re aware is what your focused on .. no pain .. no stress .. there’s absolutely nothing like it .. extremely dangerous .. I know a lot of heroin user who use meth .. but not together .. heroin is for the high and meth is to keep them up to function and work ..

Florida cops have arrested an alleged drug dealer they say sold the fentanyl-laced cocaine to several West Point cadets who overdosed during a spring break trip this week.

Axel Giovany Casseus, 21, was jailed Saturday in lieu of $50,000 bail, Local10 News reported.

After identifying Casseus, an undercover police officer was successfully able to purchase 43 grams of cocaine from him for $1,000, according to an arrest report, the network reported.

While in custody, Casseus admitted to selling drugs to the West Point cadets and his phone contained correspondence with them, authorities said.

“Four cadets were taken to hospital. Of the six people involved, one person was not taken to hospital, and one was not a cadet. Five USMA cadets in total were involved. Two of the cadets remain hospitalized,” a West Point spokesman told The Post Saturday.

The school added the incident is “currently under investigation.” The students have not been identified, and it is unclear what disciplinary action they may face.
