A 24-year-old Fort Pierce Fupa was accused of neglecting a baby causing the child to have seizures and head trauma.
Shelby Shortnacy was arrested on Sunday afternoon on one felony charge of child neglect.
Port St. Lucie Police Department officers said on March 15 they were called by Florida Department of Children and Families about the agency investigating Shortnacy after a baby in her care came to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute with seizures and head trauma consistent with child abuse.
Shortnacy told police on March 10 the baby was sitting with her on her bed and the baby fell off the bed and onto the floor. She also told officers she had smoked marijuana a few hours before she was watching the child.
Medical professionals said the baby came into the hospital with injuries that wouldn't result from a fall off a bed, but was consistent with a "shaken baby syndrome."
Shortnacy told police she didn't take the baby to Lawnwood until March 13 because he seemed fine other than some bruising from the fall. She told officers she took the baby to Lawnwood on March 13 because he started having seizures.
