In 1996, Gregory Dow became a convicted sex offender. More than a decade later, in 2008, under the guise of being a Christian missionary, he built an orphanage in Kenya… where he proceeded to molest even more children. Then he returned to the U.S. to escape prosecution overseas.

Yesterday, U.S. Attorney William McSwain announced that Dow had been arrested, charged with four counts of “violating a U.S. law against sexual contact with minors in foreign countries.”

Dow “purported to be a Christian missionary who would care for these orphans. They called him ‘Dad.’ But instead of being a father figure for them, he preyed on their youth and vulnerability,” prosecutors said in the court filing.

Dow “used force and coercion to perpetrate the most heinous of crimes, preying on vulnerable children for his own sexual gratification,” prosecutors wrote.

There are also allegations of physical abuse “inflicted under the guise of strict discipline.”

You have to wonder how many people chose to look the other way because Dow was supposedly a Christian who just wanted to help.

He now faces up to 30 years in prison.

Pennsylvania man pleads guilty to sexually molesting girls in African orphanage he opened
A Pennsylvania man who claimed to be a Christian missionary and went to Africa to open an orphanage pleaded guilty Monday to sexually molesting four underage girls -- two as young as 11 years old -- whom he told to call him "dad."

Gregory Dow of Lancaster pleaded guilty in federal court to four counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in a foreign place between 2013 and 2017 while running the Dow Family Children's Home in Kenya, which he started in 2008.

Well he's 61 now and FTA he has to do a mandatory 15 years and change, so maybe a good chance he won't make it out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As to @AngryLittleMexican's question

FTA - Dow's wife, Mary Rose Dow, was arrested in Kenya and charged with child abuse pertaining to the birth control implants. She was fined and given some jail time. Her husband fled to the United States as the investigation against him in Africa geared up.

U.S. District Judge Edward G. Smith sentenced 61-year-old Gregory Dow to 15 years and eight months in prison. He must also pay $16,000 in restitution and live under supervised release for the rest of his life, the judge said.
FBI Special Agent Michael J. Driscoll described Dow as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” who betrayed an entire community’s trust.

“Under the guise of faith-based charity work benefiting orphaned children, Gregory Dow traveled halfway around the world to prey on incredibly vulnerable victims,” Williams said. “His crimes are nearly incomprehensible in their depravity. We thank the witnesses in this case for coming forward to report him, and our law enforcement partners in the United States and in Kenya for working diligently to bring him to justice. It is no exaggeration to say that the world’s children are safer with Dow behind bars.”
