"Serina Madden, 31, is accused of acting with "depraved indifference" in the February 2018 death of 10-year-old Belladonna Loke — the child had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, couldn't feed herself, required a wheelchair, and had allegedly been starved in her final days.

Jury selection for Madden's trial is scheduled to begin July 22 in Broome County Court. On Tuesday, Judge Joseph Cawley heard limited testimony about allegedly incriminating statements Madden told New York State Police and CPS officials when the investigation began Feb. 18, 2018."

A woman pleaded guilty to 1st-degree manslaughter in the 2018 death of her daughter in Broome County Court Thursday morning.

The Broome County District Attorney’s office says Serina A. Madden neglected, starved and did not provide sufficient medical care to the 10-year-old victim.

Sentencing for Madden is scheduled for Feb. 5, 2020.

Serina Madden was sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years parole for the death of the child due to neglect, malnutrition, starvation and a lack of medical care.

Medical examiners determined the child died of pneumonia and prosecutors say 10-year-old Belladonna Loke had not received medical care she had required.

Madden was found by police with the other children at Chuck E. Cheese in Vestal a day after the girl's body was reported to authorities and she was arrested by New York State Police in Endicott last July.

Before agreeing to the plea deal, Madden had been charged with felony counts of murder and manslaughter and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
