Two men in Wyoming are facing charges in connection to the death of a 23-year-old man whom the suspects accused of being a pedophile.
Rowan Henry Littauer, 19, stands accused of first-degree murder and mutilation of a dead body. Orion Schlesinger, 18, is facing charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and theft. They are accused of killing 23-year-old Dakota Farley.
The probably cause affidavit does not reveal why the suspects thought Farley was a pedophile.
The investigation revealed that pals Littauer and Schlesinger concocted a plan in the evening hours of Feb. 1 to go to Farley’s home “with the express purpose of ending his life.” Littauer allegedly said he gathered a “compound bow, broadhead tipped arrows, and a BB gun” at his house after Schlesinger came over. The pair then walked over a mile to Farley’s house and went inside where the victim was standing in the living room, according to the affidavit. Cops did not say in the affidavit whether Farley knew the suspects prior to the incident.
Littauer shot Farley “through the right arm and into his chest, resulting in his nearly-instantaneous death,” detectives wrote. He then allegedly fired eight BBs into Farley’s head as he lay dead on the ground. Schlessinger is accused of stealing Farley’s purple and gray .22 caliber revolver.

Their look says they are surprised that they were caught in their diabolically clever murder.

They took a compound bow and arrows and a BB gun, which only proves if a gun is not available they'll use whatever comes to hand.

So, I'm looking at the local news sites for this case and its refreshing to see actual journalism for a change.

This is from the Pinedale Roundup about the initial hearing
Appearing via video from separate rooms at the Sublette County Detention Center, the two former students of Big Piney High School wore matching orange jumpsuits and thick rimmed glasses. Littauer smiled and laughed as he spoke with someone off screen before the hearing began. Schlesinger sat stoically.
and Judge Melinkovich's statement during the hearing
A father himself, Melinkovich’s voice broke slightly as he reminded the court that the two teens are charged with capital offenses punishable by death.

Littauer and Schlesinger relocated to Big Piney in the last year-and-a-half or two years. Melinkovich said they, “came here, were welcomed here and welcomed into a school setting where they could continue their education and were met with patience. They were met with a community who saw they needed help after what was likely a traumatic upbringing.”

Their ties to Sublette County are not strong enough to keep them from fleeing, Melinkovich argued. He continued, “I cannot think of anything more dangerous than two individuals who would gather supplies, make a plan and march over one mile in winter … to kill a man in his home.”

btw, Rowan is still listed on the roster of Big Piney High School - Puncher Football 2024-2025 as a Tight End.

I'm curious to their reasoning and if they, or those close to them, had been sexually abused.
Or, it's very possible they were looking for a reason to kill someone, didn't like the victim for some reason and saw something where there was nothing.

A 20-year-old Rowan Littauer was sentenced to between 75 years and life in prison for fatally shooting a 23-year-old autistic man with a bow and arrow one year ago.

The sentencing of Littauer in Sublette County District Court brings finality - albeit tempered by a 30-day appeal window - to a pair of cases that started when Littauer texted a female last year, to tell her he'd killed somebody over the weekend of Feb. 1, 2025.
He and his friend Orion Schlesinger, 19, trekked through a frigid night Feb. 1, 2025, entered the Big Piney home of Schlesinger’s friend Dakota Farley, and killed him.

Littauer fired the bow, sending an arrow through Farley’s arm, through his aorta and into his trachea, according to prior court testimony. He then riddled the man’s scalp with BBs; and Schlesinger stole a gun that Farley had.
Orion Schlesinger conspired with Littauer to have Farley killed after a slight regarding Schlesinger’s then-girlfriend, according to court documents and statements.

Schlesinger was sentenced Jan. 8 to between 54 years and life in prison, on conspiracy murder and theft convictions.
Littauer said he did not know Farley and believed when he killed him that he was protecting Schlesinger. Evidence in this case indicates that Schlesinger believes Farley had wronged his girlfriend in some way, though the girlfriend later told investigators he merely “creeped” her out.
“Dakota Farley died by my hands in his own home,” Littauer said Thursday. “I violated someone’s sanctuary and life. And although I cannot bring (him) back to life, I will spend the rest of my life trying to pay an impossible debt.”

Littauer added: “I did not realize how many lives I’d change and destroy in 15 to 20 minutes.”
But both Littauer and Farley struggled with making friends but cherished the few friends they made, according to their two families. Both struggled developmentally.

Littauer is also on the autism spectrum, his public defense attorney Elisabeth Trefonas said.
