A former Long Island teacher was arrested in New Jersey after posing as a minor online to chat sexually and try to solicit naked pictures of two kids under the age of 13, officials say.

Ryan J. McCaffery, a 37-year-old Ridge resident and once high school educator, was arrested on second-degree sexual assault, third-degree child endangerment, and fourth-degree lewdness charges after police searched his home last January.

Under the screenname Asherkonlon2, McCaffery separately “requested nude photos and engaged in sexual acts while video chatting with the victims,” according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, who noted the accused pretended to be under 18.

A Long Island schoolteacher and boys soccer coach who admitted luring two Tenafly pre-teens into sending him nude photos was sentenced to a plea-bargained five years in state prison today.

Ryan J. McCaffery of Suffolk County posed as a youngster himself, using the screen name “Asherkonlon2,” to have a sexual online chat with a victim under 13 in Tenafly on Oct. 14, 2022, detectives charged.

Rather than face the potential outcome of a trial, McCaffery pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault last Oct. 14 in exchange for the five-year sentence.

Superior Court Judge Kazlau had sheriff’s officers immediately return him to the jail pending assignment to either a state prison or the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel following the sentencing hearing today (Wed., Feb. 11th) in Hackensack.

McCaffery’s projected release date: Feb. 3, 2031.
