Alden Martin Junior is charged with felony child abuse after his girlfriend’s infant daughter showed up at a hospital with bruises on her chest and head.
Martin initially told police he was holding the child when its head moved forward, hitting his collarbone sharply. He later said he had put the baby on a bed, went to another room, made a visit to the bathroom, and returned to find the one-month-old on the floor.
Doctors said neither story would explain the child’s injuries, including significant internal bleeding.
Another child in the home told a social services agent the victim had been thrown against a window.
