Shedrick James, 26, of North Philadelphia will stand trial for allegedly beating his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son, Isaiah Josiah McNeil to death in August.

Following testimony from the boy’s mother, 25-year-old Shanekia McNeil, Judge Karen Yvette Simmons ruled there was enough evidence to move to trial.

McNeil gave the following testimony:

On Aug. 20, the day her baby died, they were living in her North Philadelphia home with another son and with James, whom she had met during the summer and started dating a few weeks before Isaiah’s death.

Two other children of McNeil’s were staying with their father, who had shared custody of their four children.

The day of the baby’s death, she left the children alone with James, who was building a bunk bed for the kids, she said. This was the first time she had left the kids alone with him. She returned to check on the children, whom she found sleeping, and she went back out.

Around 6 p.m., James called her, saying “something was wrong with Isaiah,” she said. He said Isaiah was choking on water and noodles. “And he said he tried to do CPR on him and he passed out.”

When she returned, she found police officers in her house, and James holding Isaiah. His head was hanging over James’ arm. The baby’s mouth was agape and filled with noodles. His eyes were open, but not blinking.

Police drove her to St. Christopher’s Hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead an hour later. Her son Khamire, then 8, told police that James had beaten Isaiah into unconsciousness.

Assistant Medical Examiner Lyndsey Emery testified Tuesday that the baby had visible bruising on his face, head and abdomen. The cause of death was ruled a blunt-impact injuries of the torso, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Where are you even going that you would leave your kids with the man you just started dating?
Like isn't that the time when you invite him over after the kids are in bed so you get some time together? Or get a babysitter and go on dates with him?
I can't imagine thinking 'oh cool the guy I like a lot and am sort of really starting to think something could happen is here, to spend some time with me and build a bunk for my kids so I will just go out and leave the kids here to bug him while he builds and he can feed them and put them to bed too.!'
Apart from the fact she left her kids with someone she probably doesn't know that well, which is stupid and dangerous, it's also rude! He's visting her, helping her, dating her but she wants to be elsewhere, not with him and getting free babysitting.

As part of a plea deal with the district attorney, a Philadelphia man has admitted to brutally beating a baby to death more than a year ago. According to responding officers, the man blamed the child’s death on noodles.

James Shedrick pleaded guilty to third-degree murder for the death of 20-month-old Isaiah McNeil, as well as to charges of assault and recklessly endangering a child. He also admitted he whipped the baby’s 8-year-old brother with a belt and assaulted their mother.

In August 2018, police were called to a home where they found the baby unconscious. Shedrick was watching the baby and the 8-year-old that day, because the child’s mother — his girlfriend — was picking up her other two children.

Shedrick, 27, told the older boy he was going to bathe the baby. Instead, prosecutors say he brutally beat the child in the tub — so much so that his liver, pancreas and aorta were lacerated. The boy’s small body was bruised and contused.

Prosecutors noted the 8-year-old heard the beating and his brother crying, until he suddenly stopped.

Shedrick called police and told them the child choked on ramen noodles. When officers raced the child to the hospital, Shedrick took off. They eventually caught up with him and arrested him, after an autopsy revealed Isaiah’s violent injuries.

Days prior to the beating, officials say Shedrick also assaulted the children’s mother because he didn’t like what she was wearing.

While prosecutors read through the facts of the case during the plea hearing, Shedrick shifted through papers and seemingly took notes, but he didn’t look up while they recounted the brutal details.

The defendant claims he has ADHD and at times is schizophrenic, so the judge ordered a mental health evaluation before his January sentencing.

Don't get involved with people who have tear ink that looks like it was done in Cell Block C.

Also ramen noodles will kill given half a chance.
Always be on the lookout, especially for the shrimp flavor!
I like the chicken tortilla ones. Luckily for what's his face, they have them in jail, so he'll be reminded of his stupid story that didn't work on a daily basis.

A Philadelphia man who withdrew a guilty plea for killing a baby years ago has now been found guilty of third-degree murder by a jury.

James Shedrick threw up his hands, shook his head and yelled “What?” as the jury read aloud that he was guilty of third-degree murder and related offenses in the beating death of 20-month-old Isaiah McNeil in 2018.
The baby was declared dead at the hospital, after prosecutors say his mother came home, found the baby unconscious and called police who rushed the mother and child to the hospital.

Prosecutors alleged Shedrick, the mother’s boyfriend, beat the baby while he bathed him in the bathtub — and when police arrived, he left the three other young children at the home by themselves.
Jurors heard a taped interview from his 8-year-old brother who said Shedrick would whip both him and the baby with a belt sometimes, and that on the night of Aug. 20, 2018, he heard the baby repeatedly screaming, and also repeatedly heard Shedrick yelling for the baby to ‘shut up.”

Prosecutors say the boy’s liver, pancreas and aorta were lacerated. The boy’s small body was bruised and contused. The child died of his injuries.
