The Outcome is probably very grim
Police officers and volunteers scoured Logan neighborhoods in search of a 5-year-old girl who was reported missing early Saturday morning.

Family members told police they last saw Elizabeth Shelley around 2 a.m. When they woke up at 10 a.m., she was gone. The girl’s uncle Alex Whipple, 21, had disappeared as well, the family said.

Officers later found that man walking around the northern Utah town around 3 p.m. and detained him, according to a Logan Police Department news release. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office has been questioning him, but said he has not been cooperative.

“We’re very concerned,” said Logan police Capt. Tyson Budge. “At this point, we believe she’s been harmed.”

Family members believe the girl was wearing a teal plaid shirt and blue jeans. She has shoulder-length curly, brown hair and brown eyes. The toddler is 3 feet, 6 inches tall.

The search will continue throughout the night and now includes agents from the FBI and multiple other agencies.

Additional volunteers have been carefully searching a canal located in the vicinity, with no apparent results. At this point, only the family home and the Bear River Charter have been marked with police tape.

Logan Police said Alex Whipple has a criminal history and a drug problem.

"We have real reason to be concerned for her safety,” Budge said.

Officers are also searching the family's house after securing a search warrant late Saturday evening.

Article didn’t give absolutely any information other than that statement unfortunately

"The unfortunate thing is that we have all the adults accounted for," Logan police Capt. Tyson Budge told NBC affiliate KSL in Salt Lake City Saturday. "So obviously, conclusion is that she's in a lot of danger."

Whipple was in possession of "certain items," such as clothing, that authorities believe indicates the uncle "was with her after he said he was," the police captain told the outlet.

"We know there are many who want to help and there are some who think they are helping by posting their concern about the perceived details of this investigation," the Logan Police Department said in a tweet. "They do not have all the information because we cannot release everything pertinent to the investigation."

Whipple was taken into custody Saturday at about 6 p.m. for absconding probation and, among other charges, receiving stolen property and drinking under the influence, Budge added.

He is being held on $250,000 bond, according to the Cache County Sheriff's Office's website.

Whipple has not been formally arrested in connection with Elizabeth's disappearance, but Budge told ABC News authorities are "pretty confident" he had something to do with it. A burner phone Whipple was allegedly using was among the evidence found at the girl's home, allegedly linking him to her disappearance, according to Budge.

Thanks, Five.

The father of a missing Utah girl said he doesn't believe that her uncle would have harmed the five-year-old.

Elizabeth Shelley was reported missing from her home around 10am on Saturday.

Later that day, authorities arrested the child's uncle, Alexander Whipple, 21, who police reportedly found walking around with some of the girl's clothing in his hands.

On Sunday, Elizabeth's father, Wes Shelley, made a comment on the Facebook page of his daughter's mother, Jessica Whipple.

'I knew Alex and was good friends with him for a while before I met Jess. I don't think he could or would do it to his niece,' Shelley said in response to a Facebook user.

Shelley, who claims that Jessica has refused to let him see his daughter, said: 'I seen how he was with her but, like I said Jess has ignored me for 4 years and I lost touch with Alex. A lot can happen in time.

'I just pray that my daughter is safe and gets home safe,' Shelley added.

Shelley also voiced his concern on Jessica's page, saying he 'would appreciate a call' and that he's 'worried' about how she's doing.

He also wrote that he knows 'how it feels to have her go missing in the middle of the night'.

He made the comments on Facebook just hours before officers from the Logan City Police Department shared an update on the social media site as they continue their search for Elizabeth.

'Officers located several items of interest a short distance from the home. This item has been tested and there is forensic evidence of 5-year-old Elizabeth Shelley,' the update reads.

Police did not elaborate on what that particular item is, but they did say that the piece of evidence connects Whipple to the child and her residence.

'Some items were then located another short distance away which also shows a forensic connection to our missing 5-year-old,' the statement continued.

"...authorities arrested the child's uncle, Alexander Whipple, 21, who police reportedly found walking around with some of the girl's clothing in his hands."

The father of the little girl must be delusional given the uncle's lack of cooperation, etc. in addition to the above. Someone needs to beat the truth out of the uncle cuz he's got guilty written all over him, the rotten bastard.

Of course he doesn’t believe it. No one wants to think someone they know is monstrous. But if you refuse to even acknowledge the possibility, your kids are actually less safe.

But Jensen did concede that based on the collection of DNA evidence, "We believe that Lizzy is hurt, but we don’t know what condition she is in right now."

They have him on surveillance.. acting crafty AF but NOT with the itty bitty.. I think they’re all guilty and he drew the short straw of dealing with her body..

The uncle of five-year-old Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Shelley, the Utah girl who had been missing for five days, has been charged with her murder.

His lawyer said Whipple, 21, told police where the girl's body was hidden under trees and brush less than a block from her home.

Shannon Demler said the breakthrough came after he presented Whipple with the facts and evidence, News 2 reported.

Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen said Wednesday before the discovery of the girl's body that her blood was located on a watch and a hooded sweatshirt belonging to her uncle, 21-year-old Alex Whipple.

The teal blue skirt she was last seen wearing was also recovered after being 'hastily buried' under bark and dirt near the family home.

Prosecutors said they also recovered a broken LivingKit kitchen knife with the girl's blood on it, matching a blade that had gone missing from the family home.

Investigators also found a piece of PVC pipe 50 yards away in the parking lot of Bear River Charter School with a partial palm print in a red substance. The find matched Whipple’s hand, the charges state.

Whipple was charged with aggravated murder which is a capital offense. He was also charged with child kidnapping, a first-degree felony, desecration of a human body, a third-degree felony, and two counts of obstruction of justice.

They had to get a warrant to search the family home? That does not bode well. Most parents want their kid back and gladly allow a search.

Kinda late to answering this, but they have to show up with a warrant. If they ask permission and the homeowner says no, detectives can’t wait around to obtain a warrant while the homeowner destroys evidence.

Even if they’re willing to allow a search, they do depend heavily upon the element of surprise.
