A La Grande boy whose mother claimed the family needed money for his bone marrow transplant has been placed in state custody after the boy was found to be healthy.
Billy Harp Smith is now under the care of the state Department of Human Services, according to court records.
Billy's mother, Tammy Kay Wallender-Smith, 35, had claimed the boy was suffering from leukemia and needed treatment at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.
