Truck driver accused of kidnapping woman stranded on highway

Authorities say a woman who ran out of gas on an interstate was kidnapped by a truck driver who handcuffed her and threatened to rape her.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation searched at the home 62-year-old Roy Nellsch, who authorities charged with kidnapping.

An arrest warrant says the woman became stranded May 22 on Interstate 24 near the Tennessee-Kentucky line. She says Nellsch offered to take her to a gas station, but handcuffed her once she was inside his truck and told her he was going to rape her.

Authorities say the woman escaped, and officers arrested Nellsch the same day. Authorities say investigators are checking whether he may've been responsible for other crimes.

OH SHIT ON A SHINGLE...

@Sugar Cookie we should keep an eye on this one..

A criminal court judge confirms to the News4 I-Team that a TBI agent found a large number of women's bloody underwear inside the cab of a semi-truck of a driver charged with the especially aggravated kidnapping of a Clarksville woman.

The police chief who arrested truck driver Roy Nellsch told the News4 I-Team that he saw blood inside the back compartment, the dashboard and sun visor.

The woman stated in an affidavit that Nellsch handcuffed and struck her with a gun, saying he was going to rape her and keep her for days.

The woman said she managed to get one hand out of the handcuffs to escape from his semi, and then was able to alert police, providing them with a license plate number.

After admitting that he had been to Clarksville, the location of the attempted kidnapping, Hayley said Nellsch confirmed he had two guns in the cab of his truck.

Haley said he wanted to confirm the weapons were inside, and found one loaded weapon, along with blood, both in the back compartment and on the dashboard and visor.

Thank God she was able to get away and because of that he is being investigated. Just imagine if she hadn't got away...any crime against her or any other victim would probably never come back to him! I hope in the very least they get enough to put him away for a long, long time!

I had to make a decision one time, but I was lucky. My car broke down on my way to my kid's daycare, and we had to walk back home several miles down a country road. I was resigned to it but, then, in the distance I saw dogs. A couple stopped and offered a ride which I turned down. As we got closer to those dogs, another vehicle stopped and it was a woman so I took the chance. Flipped those dogs off as we drove past. Those were the days before cell phones, so options were more limited.

When I was in college, I used to hitchhike back in the day and am damn lucky nothing ever happened. Since I lived along a main road to the college, if I had a class say at 10:00 a.m., I'd get out at 9:30 to hitch a ride and 99% of the time it was another student going there as well and I'd get to class on time. The last time I hitched, it was an older man who got off on swearing, seeming to try to make me uncomfortable so I had him stop at a convenience store and said thanks, I'm done. I suspected it was a situation that would've escalated so I never put my thumb out there again.

An Alabama trucker charged with trying to kidnap a woman on Interstate 24 has been indicted by a federal grand jury, and attorneys have released more details about how the woman escaped.

Roy Nellsch, 63, was indicted on charges of kidnapping, possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Don Cochran for the Middle District of Tennessee.

On May 22, 2019, Nellsch, a long-haul trucker for more than 40 years, encountered a woman with car trouble on Interstate 24 near Fort Campbell. The woman’s car was out of gas, and Nellsch offered to give her a ride to the next exit, which was Exit 1 in Tennessee, according to a news release.

The woman accepted the ride and got in the truck, and Nellsch drove eastbound. When he
continued past Exits 1 and 4, the woman became scared and started screaming, according to the news release.

Nellsch pulled over on the exit ramp at Exit 8 in Clarksville, pointed a handgun at the woman and told her he was kidnapping her and that was going to rape her. He ordered her into the sleeper part of the cab, where he began assaulting her and ripped her dress. During the struggle, the woman was able to turn the gun toward Nellsch and pull the trigger but it did not fire. Nellsch produced another handgun and struck the woman in the head. He then handcuffed the woman, placed a blanket over her and continued driving along Interstate 24, the release said.

As Nellsch was driving, the woman was able to slip one hand out of the handcuffs. She then placed the blanket over Nellsch’s head and placed one arm around his throat while she tried to steer the truck and honk the horn with the other hand and screamed for him to pull over. Nellsch pulled the truck to the side of road and took the remaining handcuff off the woman, and she got out of the truck and flagged down oncoming motorists for help. Nellsch drove away and was stopped and arrested a short time later in Springfield, the release said.

A search of the truck produced, among other items, two handguns; a stun gun; handcuffs; bags containing numerous pairs of women’s underwear and bras and numerous electronic devices, including a digital camera, laptop computers, cell phones, and media storage devices.

On the electronic devices were over 10,000 images and videos of child pornography, including videos depicting violence against small children and a ledger with lists of names, ages, locations and descriptions of women and children, the release said

In the WSMV 4 Investigates documentary “MONSTER COMING OUT,” viewers will hear how the only known survivor of a suspected serial killer barely escaped his truck and see some of the evidence a federal prosecutor said was the most troubling of her career.
Roy Nellsch died in a federal prison in March 2022 as he awaited trial on kidnapping and attempted rape charges. The long-haul truck driver was accused of kidnapping a woman in Clarksville, Tennessee in 2019. Following the arrest, thousands of images of child pornography were found inside his truck, authorities said.
But detectives believe he’s responsible for much worse: killing women across the United States. At one point, investigators found a bloody bag inside his truck with numerous pairs of women’s underwear. One detective told WSMV4′s Chief Investigative Reporter Jeremy Finley: “Roy Nellsch really embodies evil.”

A bunch of bodies were found near the Flying J truck stop in Albuquerque several years ago. As far as I know, they never caught the person. They suspected it was a truck driver. Makes you wonder if this guy could have done it?
